weekend inspiration: jenni bowlin studios

 

Janine loves bold patterned papers and the large roses and daisies on the Front Porch range was the perfect inspiration for this layout. Janine has handcut the flowers and then used them to frame the picture while using the smaller prints from the range to offer interest to the design.

 

As soon as Caz saw the delicate floral print on these Jenni Bowlin Studios Town Square papers she was reminded of a little outfit that her Mum had made her when she was just walking. She dug out these photos and had a little trip down memory lane. Her Mum is writing the blurb for the back of the layout. about where she purchased the fabric and how it was one of the few outfits that Caz had as money was tight when they arrived on the ship from England.

 

We need to say a huge thankyou to Michelle from Iowa for these 3 gorgeous layouts using Jenni Bowlin Studio’s products. Check out the little details, from the tiny flower trail the butterfly is leaving to the pleated paper fan around the button. We just loved everything about them.

 

We just love the way Melissa Ferguson has layered the pattern papers from the Front Porch range. As you can see the colours all work together so well including the little bit of black Melissa has added here and there. Thanks so much Melissa for sharing your lovely work with us!

weekend inspiration: cosmo cricket

 

To create this layout about her son, Nic used the beautiful "Earth Love" range.  Nic felt that the combination of a soft colour palette coupled with the contrast of strong browns and reds were perfect to express the emotion behind the story of this layout about her son.

She cut the title from the "Striptease" sheet and combined this with "Earth Love" journal blocks, rub-ons, ribbons and chipboard elements then finished with a touch of Hambly and some hand-stitched embroidery.

The "Earth Love" range has gorgeous mossy colours and a whole range of different elements suitable for a host of themes and photos.

 

The Cosmo Cricket Boyfriend Collection is excellent for anything a little Boyish, also you could use them for School photos etc., the vibrant primary colours in the range of stickers and tags is gorgeous and compliments the papers perfectly, gorgeous to use. Carole used a cute photo of her little boy Chaise, no matter the age the papers are perfect.

 

 

We thank Laura Craighie for the creation of these two beautiful pages. We loved the use of the colours on the neutral backgrounds, and the gorgeous strategic stitching.

 

 

Here she has also created a couple of cards.  The first features more Earth Love and the fabulous flower is made from material girl. 

 

Danni created these gorgeous cards using Cosmo Cricket "Jolly by Golly" Collection, and how adorable they are.  The chipboard shapes and papers go perfectly and I would have love to received one for Christmas!  Thank you so much Danni for sharing these gorgeous cards with us.

 

 

Debbie Olsen created this beautiful card using Cosmo’s Garden Variety.  We loved how she’s just picked out the pinks and reds, softening the whole look of the line.  A card anyone would be delighted to receive!

product focus: bling

Bling is the perfect accent, often being used as a final small embellishment, as shown in these tags created by Nic Howard. Nic admits she has been incredibly inspired by Tim Holtz lately, and these tags are testament to that! Nic started with regular office shipping tags and applied a range of Distress Ink colours to create a base of colours. She then used various Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous and Pink Paislee Mistletoe & Co stamps to create the artwork on each tag.

The final embellishing on these tags are in the form of Heidi Swapp Chandelier Crystals, as well as bling borders. What perfect tags to add to a variety of gifts or cards!

Basic Grey has such a huge, versatile range of bling in all shapes and colours, and they can be used on any sort of project that you undertake. On this layout, Steph used Orange, Purple and Pink Gemstones to highlight and fun Sassafras Lass Papers she cut into strips. Not only did this give the layout a feeling of depth but added a little zing to what was a fairly flat layout.

In the corner of her photo, she has used one of the designer series of bling from Basic Grey which looks gorgeous as an extra embellishment. Steph also used Heidi Swapp's Clear Bling Lines to run across the border of her Sassafras Monstrosity Paper.

inspired by: architecture

The ornate intricacy of wrought iron doors has always caught Steph's imagination. They are so detailed and beautiful, and whether being new or worn, they always facinate. Twiddleybitz has introduced these gorgeous chipboard doors, which are layered upon each other. Steph has slipped cut outs of Webster's Pages Roses, in between each layer, to add dimension and create a frame for the doors. As you can see the result is stunning.

Caz was inspired by a number of things in the marble interior of this building. The columns, the inscription etched in the marble panel and the rich green contrast colour against the cool creams of the marble. She spliced the script paper to mimic the columns and added 3 green diamond 'tiles' along the bottom of the page like the ones on the floor of the building. As the layout was about a rather gruesome subject she flicked red paint over the layout to represent blood spatters.

    

      

Carole love absolutely anything to do with Paris and the Eifel Tower, and the gorgeous "Cupid" Collection by Pink Paislee went so well with her creation. She found this really cute Woodern Puzzle of the Eifel Tower, which she painted and covered with the pattern papers, and embellished with cut out flowers and brads, just adorable, and a very different project.

weekend inspiration: tim holtz

 

Tim Holtz has done it again !!! Now you can create your own masks like the one Steph has done here. The Tim Holtz Mask packets comprise of 2 plastic masks and a protection sheet that you can use to protect your mask once it is cut. In this layout, Steph photocopied a dress form and enlarged it to the size that she thought was suitable for her 8.5 x 11 layout. Once she was happy with the size she placed it under the mask and with a permanent marker traced around the image.

Steph then cut out the image from the mask. Once she had finished cutting the outline of the dress form she was left with a positive and negative mask to use in the future. One was the solid dress form, the other mask was left with the positive image cut out of it. Next Steph picked up the negative image and placed it on her patterned paper.

She sprayed the mask with Tattered Angels Patina Glimmermist and then patted dry with a paper towel. Steph then removed the mask and was left with a gorgeous image on her base of the original dress form. Using the mask on patterned paper is a beautiful way of filling the empty image with pattern. These masks are easy to use and its a wonderful way of having your own custom images to use as masks.

 

The new Tim Holtz sprockets are really cool and so perfect for bike layouts! Mel has hand-stitched the sprockets onto her page, directly over the top of some Lil Davis shipping tags. A little bit of red bling (hero arts) was then scattered across the layout to add a splash of colour.

 

This is one of the details from the 7gypsies Printer Tray created by Suz, but we’re sharing it again here to show how to use Tim’s ‘Hitch Fasteners’.    These little doorknob shaped bits of metal Suz has had in her stash for a while, but it wasn’t until she was looking through Tims’ 12 Tags of Christmas that she finally figured out what they were for!  The perfect thing for hanging anything on a jumpring from, like Tim Holtz keys or these beautiful 7Gypsies crystals.

 

 

And remember Suz’s gorgeous Tree of Life from the Christmas post?  She didn’t put it away after the festive season, it’s still sitting proudly on her sideboard, and can be themed for other occasions through the year – in fact it was the holder of a dozen bright yellow tissue paper flowers for her daughters recent birthday party.  For now though, it holds little nic nacs and tags and handmade pieces of art. 

The above is one she has made for a friend’s Tree of Life (this could be a great idea for a future swap…!), using Grungeboard alphas and elements which she has painted and then Glimmer Misted.  This technique works so well on Grungeboard with the Glimmer Mist settling in the embossed areas.  Tim Holtz Foliage was also painted and Glimmer Misted, and the Philosophy Tag and Bead Chain was sanded back so that the brighter copper colour showed through the patina.

 

This layout my Patti Hamill is just gorgeous. She has used Webster's Pages Winter Wings as her main patterned papers and Tim Holtz's Flourish mask as a gorgeous accent. The way she has applied the soft pink mist over the mask has really given the layout and youthful, soft feel. Thanks Patti for sharing your beautiful work.

 

Ali Russell has a beautiful style when she scraps, and she has demonstrated this with this gorgeous layout entitled " a moment with you. Ali has used Tim Holtz Clockworks Masks on the side of her layout, and layered them with transparency and machine sewing to give the layout texture and interest. I just love what she has done here. Thanks Ali.

 

 

 

A couple of fabulous samples from Tim Holtz – here he uses the new sprockets, metal numbers and other hardware – sometimes these tiny embellishments are just the touch you need to finish off a project.

weekend inspiration: hambly screenprints

 

 

 

 

Transparencies are so versatile and look stunning on any creation, and none are more fabulous than Hambly’s! There is a myriad of things that you can do with a transparency and here Steph shows two other ways to use this versatile textile. Firstly she has cut the new Lace Hambly Transparency into strips and used them to frame her photo.

Because of the transparent quality of this textile, they are ideal for layering and special effects as shown here, adhered onto the photo. Another interesting way of showcasing this product is to use it as a "window" on your layout. Steph has cut a huge window in the middle of her Aussie Scrap Source Cardstock and adhered the Hambly Dress Form Transparency to the back. As you can see the result is gorgeous. This technique would look lovely for OTP projects and different size windows on a page.

 

Kraft Cardstock, grid paper, a variety of alphabets and Hambly transparencies all combine together to make this feel-good layout by Nic Howard. Nic knew the Hambly transparency would make a wonderful frame for this photo of her friends. She wanted bright colours with fun effect, and knew the frame would make the photo pop. Strips pf paper from Sassafras Lass add the spark, while some dark inking accentuates the effects of the black and white Hambly frames.

 

Suz loved Hambly’s Clear Butterfly Stickers and had been looking for an excuse to use them.  She found it when creating a layout about a conversation she had with her daughter.  Suz has layered Hambly over Hambly, included beautiful BasicGrey Lace Cuts and of course added the Clear Stickers which give, an otherwise simple page, some much needed movement.

 

A Hambly post isn’t really complete without a layout from Loretta Grayson using her favourite woodgrain transparency.  Here she uses a Van Gogh quote to form the basis of this amazingly beautiful swirly layout.  Something about it makes you want to just dive into the page.  Thanks so much Rett for letting us share your talent yet again.

 

Christine Drumheller created this fabulous page with so many elements that we love – substantial journalling, lots of fun detail, perfect balance, and of course Hamby Screen Prints!  We love how she has layered the leaves – and check out the little Sassafras owl hiding in the tree!  Thanks Christine.

 

Finally, how beautiful is this tag?  Judi VanValkinburgh-Garber allowed us to share her fabulous talent here – we love how she has combined Hambly with felt and such fabulous stitching to create a tag anyone would be thrilled to find in their mailbox.  Thanks so much Judi.

product focus: journalling elements

 

This layout by Mel uses just four products and a little stitching: Sassafras Lass journal tag stickers & numerical chipboard, kraft cardstock and Websters pokee-dots alphas. Mixing up the tag stickers with a variety of small photos and large chipboard numbers is an effective way to create numerical journaling to use up those excess photos you have lying around in your stash.

Caz decided to make a little brag book for a Secret Santa gift last year as the recipient had just become a Grandmother again. She needed something small to add to each page so that the recipient could journal little things such as the date or occasion without having to feel obliged to write too much. These Jenni Bowlin tickets were the perfect solution. Small enough to not take up to much room on the page but with enough room to write a few lines. They come in many different colours and styles.

inspired by: fabric/textures

This layered layout by Nic Howard was inspired by a picture of a Rag Quilt found online. When Nic saw a rag quilt sewn by talented friend Evana Willis, she saw the layers, the fringes and the way colours combined together and decided it was definitely inspirational, it didn't take Nic long to find a photo online of one to use for this challenge.  Nic created the base of her layout with BasicGrey designer cardstock and a Collage Press diecut paper.

She used layers of Collage Press and Webster’s Pages, with a small fringe in cream in between. A little water to soak the fringe and it was easy to manipulate and curl. Nic finished with some Loretta-Grayson style flowers and alphas, both from BasicGrey.

While working at the Stitches and Craft Show in Sydney last year, Nicole was excited to discover the amazing work by fabric company Prints Charming. She was instantly inspired by not only the whimsical shapes that the wonderfully talented ladies print onto the fabric but by the way they then embroider over the top. This creates texture, pattern and colour and ensures that no two shapes end up the same! Even the front page of their website inspires Nic!

Nic emulated the Prints Charming style by using stamps by Basic Grey to create the basic circle shapes. She used paint to stamp onto Magic scraps fabric paper and then embroidered over top with co-ordinating embroidery threads. She then tied all of her page elements together by using a running stitch to make a big swirl all over her page. If you look at the Prints Charming webpage, you'll see Nic's inspiration right there!

weekend inspiration: pink paislee

Caz loved the combination of purple,orange and green in the Pink Paislee Twilight paper and wanted to utilize it for pages other than Halloween ones. In this layout she journals about the time in her life she remembers being the most scared. 8 years old, alone with Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" and a small suit of armour statue. She particularly loves the glittery chipboard letters and the random sizes they come in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Well if there was a Patterned Paper Range that would kick start Louise's mojo it would be the Amber Road range from Pink Paislee. Louise adored creating with this range as it perfectly suits her love of vintage scrapping. But the range is so versatile it would also suit contemporary and arty styles of scrapping and OTP creations as well.

 

 

Here Carole showcases the older but still beautiful Spring Fling range of patterned papers.  We love the gorgeous little handmade birdcage she has created for this amazingly dimensional photo frame.

 

Another oldie but a goodie, the Enchanting line from the Winsome collection, Carole has showcased in this beautiful card.

 

A big thanks to Kim Watson in South Africa for sharing this cool layout with us about potion making. Even though the Twilight range was released as a Halloween line it has unlimited potential for layouts on any subject as Kim helps to demonstrate here. Love the little postage stamp photo in the top right hand corner Kim.

 

How gorgeous is this layout of Jen from Florida's little boy using the Pink Paislee Mistletoe & Co. range.
Jen writes - The days leading up to Christmas last year, Jacob would ask me "Was I good?" I'd always answer back "I don't know.... WERE YOU?!!! (He was a little nervous he was going to be getting coal in his stocking - Being a "Terrible Two" and all!!:)

We find it hard to believe that anyone this cute could possible be naughty.

 

 

Another lovely share from Jen is this altered coaster set. Jen added the handle and spout to the coaster holder. Made a lid, then drilled some holes into the coasters to make a mini album. All featuring the new Cupid line from Pink Paislee. Thanks for sharing your lovely work with us Jen.

 

Thank you very much to Danielle Flanders for allowing us to share her creation with the divine Abbey Road range of papers/products. With this particular layout she has used the range with a contemporary mix of paint and design, with wonderful effect.

weekend inspiration: hero arts

 

 

Sometimes we’re inspired by a photo, or the story, and sometimes, unashamedly just by the product.  The seed was sown for this page when Suz paired a BasicGrey BlingIt bird with the gorgeous Websters Whismy Threads birdcage, and wanted to do something with it.  So she combined them with Vintage Collage Art Flowers, Clear Design Birds and Branch Stamps and one of her favourite Story People quotes.  The cardstock is Glimmer Misted over the top of a Heidi Swapp Mask.

 

 

Nic used a combination of Hero Arts Sparkle Clear stamps on this layout of her daughter Madeleine. She used the 'Designer Fruit' stamps, colouring with water colour paints after stamping with Stazon ink, as embellishments and stamped the journalling with the 'Cute Letters' mini alphabet stamps. Nic loves the teeny letters and the super-cute font, and is sure she'll be using these a lot in the future!

 

 

We're very happy to share this cute little tag with you by Hero Arts designer Jennifer Mcguire using the Designer Fruit stamps. Jennifer has stamped then coloured the images and layered them on this tag which could then be used as an embellishment on a card, a scrapbook page or even on a gift! Thank you Jennifer.

 

 

Here the talented Jennifer Mcguire has created a simple but pretty cards using the Clings Hearts Trio and the larger Clings Hearts and Flowers, both of which are currently available for preorder.

product focus: stickers

Mel created this funky sticker book for her daughter, who was asking for a book to permanently stick and keep her stickers in. A white blank bare book (plus) was used for the project and the fun and endearing Monstrosities journal tags stickers & sweet treats stickers were used a base throughout the book.

A splattering of forest green glimmer mist was sprayed onto the front cover to add a little bit of interest, rather than just a stark white background.

Throughout the sticker book, Mel has included extra sticker snippets on a few of the pages, these are also from Monstrotities range of products - totally cute!

The altogether-too-clever Carole loves creating things with stickers, and this was an opportunity for her to create something for her son Chaise!  She picked up this little bedroom lamp from a bargain shop then Carole created a cute little scene for the base of the lamp.

She covered an old round place mat and then using the Jacksworld Blackboard Shapes and the Adhesive Die Cut stickers made a cute moveable pieces.

The little car and truck can actually be moved around as they are on small stands, and the train was bent slightly and stuck to the front of the placemat, and the house and the sun was actually stuck to the base of the lamp, and then Carole stuck stickers to the lamp and added buttons for an extra highlight, Jacksworld by Cosmo Cricket was perfect for this project.

Janine couldn’t help but choose the inspiration of spring as it is synonymous with new life and what better way to celebrate her new baby but a spring inspired layout. Janine adores wisteria and jacaranda blossoms that burst forth in springtime in a riot of bluish colour! The Webster’s Pages paper reminds Janine of these beautiful flowers. Add to that the adorable bunnies and birds on these papers and it creates a springtime scene to compliment her adorable newborn pictures.

 

 

After spotting a summery/beach picnic photograph (out of Amanda Soule's Handmade Home book) Mel knew that the photo would provide perfect inspiration for her layout. Replicating the fabric patchwork quilt in the photo, Mel used a series of Sassafras Lass paper whimsies (flower child) and machine stitched them into place, providing a perfect backdrop for her beach photo.

weekend inspiration: little yellow bicycle

 

 

Little Yellow Bicycle Autumn Bliss pattern papers and embellishments are beautiful, the colours are gorgeous, and they all go together so well. Carole created this cute layout cutting out the leaves to create embellishments around the photo.

The journaling tags are not just a great way to journal, but also to create little creative pieces on a layout.  Carole also used a transparency frame over her photo.

Janine carefully hand cut around the tree and then slit the circular paper to slide the hand cut tree paper through to create a seamless background. Janine also used the gorgeous diecuts from the Autumn Bliss range to frame her two photos and added dimension to the layout by altering Hero Arts flowers.

weekend inspiration: paper loft

   

Every month Kathie writes a letter to her son, detailing what he’s been up to, and his latest favourite activities, movies, toys etc. These letters often provide the journaling for her layouts, as in this example.

Kathie’s used a neutral paper from Paper Loft’s Slug Bug range as the background for her page, and written her journaling straight onto it. The big monogram Slug Bug letters form a wonderful focal point title for the page – to give them even more impact, Kathie’s outlined around the edges with a black felt tip pen.

A series of photos have been placed onto strips of patterned paper cut from one of the border sheets in the range. Circles, flowers and leaves cut from the Slug Bug patterned papers embellish the photo mat. Finally, Kathie’s stamped some images of helicopters, cars and trucks using Sassafras Lass Gas Hogs stamps, and added them to the layout for some boyish charm.

 

Even though at first glance, Paper Loft Cosmic may appear to be suited to young children, Jaimie chose to use this range for her sons t-ball page, and the soft neutral colours would acutally lend themselves to lots of different themes.  Here  clustered embellishments create interest as well as keeping with the theme of sports.

This next layout was created by Teresa Manchas, who lives in Washington, United States. Teresa has used just two sheets of Paper Loft paper, from the Grandma's House and the Now and Then collections, to create a layout of infinite intricacy and dimension.

All the embellishment on the layout has been created using stamps - Teresa stamped all the flowers and leaves and cut them out before attaching them to the layout. Even the photo has been printed on the Paper Loft paper, to give it an aged look. Thanks for letting us share your layout, Teresa!

This layout is a sad topic for Sheri Beersman who recently lost her Grandfather, however she tells me that this is her therapy for dealing with the loss - I'm sure many of us can relate to that. Sheri has used the Well Worn range so perfectly for this special layout. She has also used Basic Grey letters for her title. Many thanks for sharing this special layout with us Sheri.

Here are some more inspiring creations using Paper Loft and this time it's the Grandma's House range. Michelle Gutierrez has created these fab canvases of her children and I think you'll agree the Grandma's House range has really made these canvases look stylish. Thank you for sharing Michelle!
