At first Chris found this colour scheme quite challenging, then she remembered this photo of her husbands indoor cricket team and thought the colours could work together - well she was right! Chris has used We R Memory Keepers MVP range mostly on this layout as well as mixing in some Basic Grey Offbeat buttons. She also pulled out the old trick of 'if you can't find an alphabet in the colour you are after then hand cut it from cardstock.'
For the word prompt Chris has used 'simple' in her title and this is what her journalling says "Mens 2008/09 indoor cricket team. The team lost 8 games on the trot, but did win the vital games that put them into the Semi’s and then the final. The team they came up against in the final had beaten them quite convincingly during the season, but the boys pulled out their best game of the season when it counted. They thrashed em’!"
Blue, orange and green are three of Mel's favourite colours to scrap with, so given that this challenge included three of those colours, it was an easy choice for product. Mel chose to keep the page relatively simple as she wanted to use the layout as a front page for a camping album that she is working on at the moment. The chipboard buttons and diecuts are from the Crate Static range - such warm, rich colours and the buttons are easily added to the page with their adhesive backing.
The main title has been gently lifted off the page to add extra dimension and the hand stitching around the edge ties everything together and gives another texture to the page.
Keeping with the theme for the challenge, Mel included journaling (alongside the long colourful strip) talking about the simple pleasures of getting away in their camper as a family.
Congratulations to Tracey Henly for winning the poll with her excellent layout last week. And now for our final week of Colours and Words we have three fabulous entries. Thanks ladies! Vote for your favourite in the sidebar.

NIc finished her layout by creating distressed circle flowers from the purple and blue in Wisteria, and a small flourish from Pink Paislee. The title was created with perfectly coloured Heidi Swapp cardstock stickers, (love them in the new booklet!) and a BasicGrey font sprayed with Juniper Glimmer Mist. Although this layout is predominantly green, it is the smaller touches of purple and blue that add contrast. Perfect for the colour scheme Nic was given!
The meaning behind the layout - which is just as important as the design concept - talks about Donna's realisation that her baby girl is growing up. The journalling reads: "She fills my days with fun, laughter, frustration, joy & chaos, but above all, sheer happiness! We are nearing the day she will become a school girl & I'm afraid my happiness may fade - just a little. But, I guess it's all part of the job!"
The emphasis in this layout is definitely the story, with journaling printed directly on to the cardstock capturing memories of when Nic was a little girl.
