It was love at first sight when Sassafras introduced their Paper Whimsies at the last trade show. Steph adored the flowers and little cards and couldn't wait to start working with them. Here in this layout, she has grouped together the Flower Paper Whimsies and made big beautiful bloom out of them. She has then added sequins and Pearl Glimmermist.

With the delightful Paper Whimsy Cards, not only has Steph used them in the design of her page, but joined two together for journalling purposes. You can see the effect of these on the close up images above.

 

      

This fun OTP project was created by Steph for her eldest daughter Emma. Emma needed a blackboard to write reminder notes, and Steph found this gorgeous item at a garage sale. She painted it and re-decorated it with Sassafras Patterned Papers using Sassafras's gorgeous edges and a photo of her two girls. The Paper Whimsies looked so colorful and bright along the side of the blackboard and Steph used Sassafras's Felties as the playful centrepiece in the Flowers.

Sassafras's wonderful products are perfect for children's decor and add life and fun to their little abodes.

 

 

 

Sassafras is perfect for anything to do with kids, so Steph thought she would make a card for her daughter's birthday. the paper whimsies have a gorgeous texture which give the card an interesting look, and combined with Sassafras's Alpha Letters and Felties make this project the perfect accompaniment with a present for a little girl or boy. Sassafras's stunning products take all the hard work out of designing projects, and this card took no time make and the result is a beautiful keepsake.

Nicole loved so many releases from CHA that it was hard to settle on one, but the overall standout for her was all the fabulous felt products.  Queen and Co have released new sport themed packs of Felt Fusion and also Felt Fusion by the roll, pre-cut into manageable 1 yard lengths meaning you can buy a smaller quantity rather than a whole pack.  Sassafrass Lass have released "Felties" which are adorable pre-pieced felt embellishments that even come with adhesive attached ready to place in the perfect spot on your projects.

With this layout, Nicole combined Felt Fusion from past Queen and Company ranges with a couple of the new releases from CHA. She used the previously released Star/Scroll and mixed it with the newly released Harlequin in black which comes by the yard and the Basketball which comes by the pack.

The appeal for Nicole is that the newly released Felt Fusion mixes so well with past ranges that the need to replace older with new is eliminated, rather the new releases enhance what you may already have.
Nic has use elements from the newly released "MVP" range by We R Memory Keepers to finish this page off.

Nicole whipped up this cute little journal by covering a Jenni Bowlin 4" mini book with patterned paper. She then cut the hill and clooud shapes from Queen and Co. adhesive felt strips, attached a Queen and Co Felt Frenzy flower and finished with an adorable little Feltie from Sassafrass Lass - too easy, the only adhesive she needed was for the paper.

Unable to resist the adorable Snack Attack Felties from Sassafrass Lass, Nicole used one here as a button cover on her cute little felt envelope housing a mini album created from the new Sassafrass Lass Paper Whimsies. Nic simply cut strips from Queen and Co self-adhesive felt and attached it to a swatch from Junkitz before cutting into pieces and stitching to create this little envelope.

Not strictly felt for a felt post, but still one of Nicole's CHA favourites, the little Paper Whimsies by Sassafrass Lass are the perfect size for a delightful little mini album.

Another super quick and simple idea is to attach the Sassafrass Lass Felties to other pre-cut felt shapes to create cute accessories usually only found in funky handmade craft shops and on Etsy.

Nicole used a Jenni Bowlin felt star as her base, attached an eyelet to the top for strength and adhered a Sassafrass Lass Feltie on top. All that was left to do was to attach a Tim Holtz jump ring, a leather strap and her daughter Maddy had a new necklace that she didn't want to take off. Very Rock Chick!

Simply gorgeous hairclips can be created quicker than it takes you to read this post! Take a normal hairclip (the kind that click when you bend them) and attach a pre-made Feltie and you've created instant hipster hair clips!

  

Another quick idea for Queen and Co Felt Fusion of any kind is to attach it to a plain headband and colour with Distress Inks or Glimmermist. Glue on a few jewels and you've got an accessory fit for a princess! With all of the delightful patterns in the Felt Fusion range, you could make one to co-ordinate with every outfit!

Sassafras never fails to impress with their designs and colors and Steph looks forward to designing with them whenever possible. Here she has added brightly colored sequins to highlight the mixed color palete, and linear design of the layout. The beauty of Sassafras patterned papers is that you don't need to add much other product to create a sensational layout to add to your album.

Sassafras Lass collections are so versatile, as shown with this layout By Nic Howard. Bright colours and patterns adorn many of the papers but this layout tends towards the muted side. It's testament to the fact that Sassafras Lass pack their papers full of options, and it's up tot he creator to pick out what suits. Nic's layout is created solely with the 'Fawned of you, too" collection.

Bungle Jungle from Sassfrass Lass would have to be one of the cutest ranges that Carole has designed with, just gorgeous. Carole cut out all the very cute animals and layered them with foam tape through the layout. She also used the Journal Sticker Sheet and the Blue Alpha stickers that match this range. The colours and vibrancy of the pattern papers went really well with the delicate photo of her son Chaise.

     

Suz has gone to town here with the Vintage Yummy range, teaming it perfectly with some older snapshots of her mother and her daughter picking flowers outside their house.  Suz loved the nostalgic feel of the papers along with the rainbow colour palette, and and happily discovered it woked perfectly with products such as Jenni Bowlin’s gorgeous chipboard buttons.

 

Here Suz combines Cosmo Cricket background patterned paper and Paper Trunk and BasicGrey alphas with the delightful Sassafras Paper Whimsies Mini Cards and even some bits of the Wild Side Chipboard to embellish this cute page about how her dog and cat think of her. 

Martha Bouneau has so much creative talent, and this comes to the fore with this gorgeous layout using the Anthem Line. This paper is so fresh and energetic and so perfect for scrapping the boys in our lives.

This layout, created by Evangelina of California in the USA was so bright and bold it jumped out from online galleries at us! Evangelina has used the Vintage Yummy collection from Sassafras Lass to create a layout that perfectly showcases the bright colours of playtime! Thanks for sharing!

This layout, created by Amy Coose, is created with a variety of different elements. We have the Kraft cardstock, then a sheet of Sassafras Lass Vintage Yummy papers and some Cosmo Cricket elements to finish off. A perfect example of complementing products coming together beautifully! Thanks for sharing, Amy!

Finishing on a high note, the wonderfully talented Christine Middlecamp allowed us to share her layout using Sassafras Lass Paper Line "Anthem". I love the way she was created her own flower using the gorgeous die cuts and buttons.

Sassafras Lass blows us away every release - they have a distinctive style that remains their own.  This month they introduce three wonderful new paper lines our design team are genuinely excited to get their hands on - as well as brand new co-ordinating elements such as brads, felties, blossoms, chipboard stickers, stamps and whimsies.  Click on the images to see them larger.

 

 

 

 

 

 

weekend inspiration: sassafras lass

The name of this new Sassafras Lass range had Chris thinking of a song from the Simpsons that her daughter Annaliese loves. So she used it as her title and incorporated it into her journalling. Chris said all the papers were so gorgeous, bright and colourful that she had to use a little bit of each on this layout creating a wonderful layered effect!

Again Chris couldn't resist using each of the papers in the Dearest range and created a layered look with some inking and machine stitching also. She also used a Journal tags sticker as a photo matt on this layout. Chris's daughters have recently started their own hotmail addresses and are always sending Chris little email surprises. Chris printed out some of the emails and used them as journalling on this page.

 

 

 

 

Sassafras Lass releases the most beautifully coloured, pretty papers that are versatile for a wide range of scrapbooking topics. For this layout Mel has combined a few papers from both the Scrumptious and Blue Boutique range, added some blanket stitch and has then dressed up the layout a little with an 'In A Stitch' pink blossom. The blossoms are just delightful with their machine stitching and buttons - perfect for adding dimension and life to any page.

 

 

A couple of quick cards Chris has created from her left over Sassafras Lass papers.  We think Chris must have the best stash of handmade cards ever!

Natalie Jackson sent this layout in along with some others for our Whose Layout Is It Anyway competition.  We loved it so much we asked if we could keep it as a highlight in our weekend inspiration post. Here she not only uses snippets of of the Sunshine Lollipops papers on a stunning handpainted background, but she also shows that stamps aren't just for stamping - she has used the Sassafras Lass Oliver & Friends stamps to emboss paper a paper clay heart.

Kathie Link share this simple but pretty layout showcasing the Playtime range of papers.  We could have sworn that was Kathie in the pic but apparently it's her sister!

Finally, our Suz Doyle created the items for the cover of this month's For Keeps Creative Paper magazine using plenty of Sunshine Lollipops and Rainbows!  A birthday theme, Suz included a tri-fold invitation, party hat, party favours and more.  Tinkering Ink glitter alpha rubons were the perfect match for the papers, and  the ever beautiful Heidi Swapp florals made a pretty and unusual topper for lolly-bags.  Here is some of what she did.  For Keeps Creative Paper contains all the instructions for recreating these items.

meet the dt: suz loves sassafras lass

   

my little love affair with sassafras lass started back in 2005 with their 'dreamy' and tickled pink ranges.  i loved not only the softness of the papers but also their versatility.

 

 

 

'playtime' and 'daydream' were probably the lines that first attracted my undying devotion .  sassafras lass design their papers with a light touch - the soft colour palettes are gelato and fresh - attractive whimsical designs that seem to be created to work with photos rather than overwhelm them.

   

the whimsy continued with 'scrumptious' which i thought truly was and inspired me to create the above, which is still one of my favourite layouts.  the sassafras lass papers just seem to beg to be cut out and into and mixing and matching them enables you to practically create your own patterned papers.

 

i love that the papers have their own unique style, playful and fresh patterns and colour palettes that can be pepped up or toned down without too much skill required.

the cutest owls are featured in 'owl pals' in both patterned papers and stamps and the pink and brown colour palette may have been completely predictable without the addition of the artful orange, the very element that lightens the colour story and adds the playful tone so ever-present in sassafras lass designs.

We greet the new year with our first weekend inspiration post. 

We have a commitment this year to share even more layouts with you and we'd love your help with this.  We will be publishing a schedule of the manufacturers we're showcasing in our upcoming weekend inspiration posts in the sidebar of this blog.  We'd love you to email us at aussiedt@iinet.net.au if you have a layout you'd like to share that makes great use of products from any of those manufacturers and we'll be adding four of them to the end of each weekend inspiration post.  We'll still be bringing you layouts from our talented design team of course, as well as any others we spot that we love and want to share, but some do slip by us and it's those ones we want you to bring to our attention. 

And now we kick off with a vibrant and inspiring collection of Sassafras Lass layouts from our own design team and other talented scrappers. 

 

 

When Chris saw the colours in the Indian Summer range she knew they'd be perfect for this wedding photo she's been waiting to scrapbook. Chris layered the papers and teamed them up with Basic Grey alphabet stickers to create this layout. The title is from one of her favourite songs by Bernard Fanning. Photo by Studio 7.

 

 

Chris felt these Sassafras Lass Indian Summer papers were just begging to be cut into. The flowers and swirls then become accents on her page. The buttons and hand drawn border finish it off nicely.

 

 

 

Caz is working on an album for herself based on her fellow design team member Nic Howard's book, "That's Life". There is a chapter on Innermost Thoughts, and while Caz's thoughts are usually a turmoil of what is to be done and what she has forgotten, she chose to do a layout about a place that she can really relax.
The warmth in these Indian Summer papers by Sassafrass Lass echo the warmth in the suns rays as it sets on the beach.

 

 

 

 

When we saw these two layouts on Janine Kaye's blog we knew we needed to share them here as well.  She has taken the beautiful Starry Nights range of Sassafras lass papers and created a cool beauty with her Christmas photos.  We love her 'rusty stuff' too!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another fabulous Aussie talent, Danielle Quarmby has kindly allowed us to share a couple of her Sassafras Lass layouts as well.  Using Owl Pals papers in 'i lub it' and the ever popular spots from the Indian Summer range, Danielle shows us a freer approach to scrapbooking that we just 'lub' too!

 

 

 

Showing us how to use the Felicity range is Fiona Leehane with this gorgeous layout of her daughter. Fiona has set the papers against the black background for an eye-catching effect. Thank you for sharing your creation with us Fiona.

We thank Francine Clouden for this final layout using the Indian Summer papers. She lives in Lyon France, where amazing mushrooms like this abound.  She said she took these photos whilst picking mushrooms, they reminded her of all those Enid Blyton books she used to read.  Thanks for allowing us to share Francine - I remember those Enid Blyton books too!!
