This week we are challenging our Design Team to create layouts using vellum. Vellum is a product that is widely used by scrapbookers as well as cardmakers. Here at Aussie Scrap Source we have vellum from leading brands like BasicGrey, SEI, Carolee's Creations, Deja Views, Heidi Grace, Scenic Route and Pressed Petals.
Here are a few ways that you can use vellum on your scrapbook pages.
- Print journaling - Vellum goes through the printer fine as long as you remember to change the setting on your printer to transparency. Allow your journaling to dry before you touch it as it may smudge.
- Create accents - Cut out shapes to create your own accent.
- Windows - Vellum is a great way to frame a photo; just cut the vellum window smaller than the photo for a great layered effect.
- Woven features - Create your own patterned papers by weaving 2 (or more) different vellums together, or weave them to create unique photo corners.
- Backgrounds - simply place the vellum onto the backsheet of cardstock you are using to create a semi see-through background.
- Title - handcut a title or use your Quickutz die-cutting machine to cut titles from vellum.
- Photo Matts - Vellum makes a nice soft photo matt.
- Tearing - Vellum is easy to tear for a shabby rough look.
- Scrunched - Scrunching is a great way to add texture to the vellum; then for extra texture either sand or ink your pieces.
This weeks Step by Step shows you how to create feature photo corners by weaving the vellum. Nicole has used Heidi Grace vellum and Pressed Petals vellum to create this look.
Cut your vellum into strips at a thickness that suits your style and your layout. Make some of the strips longer than others.
- Before you stick them down, lay the strips over the top of each other so that they are woven.
- Using a double sided tape or vellum glue, attach your woven pieces to the page.
Remember to check back next Tuesday to see the vellum creations from the rest of the Design Team.
