I admit that when asked to describe ‘my style’ I was a little daunted. Its not something I find easy to explain as I feel that my photos and mood dictate the end result of a page thereby making each one individual. In all my layouts I endeavor to keep the photo as my main focus – I am NOT someone who can scrap a page with photos in mind, I have to have them sitting in front of me as inspiration or it just doesn’t happen.

At the start of each project I have to have a clean and tidy scrap desk, however by the end its hard to see the desk, thereby making me one of the messiest scrapbookers around – I find creative inspiration in the chaos that is lovingly called my desk. I never have a planned approach, preferring to just ‘let it happen’, generally I will sit at my desk and move product around till I make my choice, then go about cutting and placing until I’m happy (a little secret – I’m never happy with a LO until it’s completely finished).

In between this I’m up and down to the computer, the kitchen, or if I’m struggling for inspiration, on the couch to leaf through magazines while keeping one eye on the T.V. I don’t adhere anything until the last minute as I’m still moving bits here and there as well as adding & taking away “stuff” till the last. I find I work better under pressure and have no issue with burning the midnight oil to complete projects.

 

When I first started scrapbooking my pages were very layered and it became a case of just how much product a sheet of 12 x 12 could hold. While I still love the layered look (He still makes me happy is a return to this) I have definitely steered away to a more clean & simple style (see 3 is my lucky number) … ok not really clean & simple but its my version of it!! I love to use quotes and quite often will incorporate a quote as a title and lead into my journaling.

BasicGrey, Crate, cherryArte, Junkitz and Jenni Bowlin – paper that has a vintage style and color really appeals.

Rubons – of all descriptions.

Heidi Swapp – There is a little Heidi on every one of my pages.

Like most of us I have favorite scrappers who constantly wow me each time I see their work. While my style doesn’t necessarily reflect theirs I am able to draw inspiration from them.

Jamie Waters – I have been a fan of her work for a long time. I remember first seeing her in CK and was drawn to her simple style that focused on the everyday memories of her family. Her use of large titles and simple journaling inspire me every time.

 

Viv Bonder – not only a dear friend but an amazing artist. Viv leaves me with mouth wide open every time I see her work. She is not afraid to test the boundaries of this craft and she inspires me to try things I might never have the courage to do.
