dt challenge: 4 products 4 ways

 

Another in our series of design team challenges.  The list of ingredients were as follows: 

• Luxe Designs patterned papers
• Scenic Route Paper chipboard alphabets
• Fontwerks stickers
• Strano Designs 1.5" ribbons

One little difference in these new challenges is that the above ingredients were specified, but the choice of papers, of alphas, of ribbon colour etc was down to individual design team members.  The different looks they came up with were, as ever, fascinating.

 

The simple flowing design of the Luxe 'Disco Ball' patterned paper seemed perfect for a slightly minimalist layout. Donna simply cut a few portions of paper from a hand-cut section and adhered a couple of different pp's below it. And...just to mix it up and create a smidgen more texture, a small piece of Strano was also added below the elongated swirl. The result is simple, but upon closer inspection, quite unexpected.

 

 

As ever Suz needed colour, which she managed to introduce by bringing in the orange with her choice of Strano ribbon and Fontwerks stickers, and she painted Heidi Swapp letters to match.  Check out the texture in her Scenic Route letters though - she had a bit of fun with the new Tim Holtz Texture Hammer.  It worked well with this furry photo she was showcasing.

Jaimie cut out the leaf & vine design from two sheets of Luxe First Class paper, then pinch folded before covering one 'set' of leaves with Dimensional Magic. Once dry she then layered the pinched leaves onto the remaining vine giving instant dimension. Jaimie inked the Scenic Route chipboard with Stazon before finally layering the Fontwerks Label stickers into a cluster and adding the rest of her title with the Carolee's alpha stickers, a few Luxe arrow rubons and the results speak for themselves.

 

Chris used the black, red and teal colours of the Stiletto Luxe papers to scrap this school Christmas occasion. She then cleverly used the Fontwerks label stickers as frames for her tiny photos. The chipboard and stitched ribbon add lots of dimension to the layout.

meet the dt: suz loves sassafras lass

   

my little love affair with sassafras lass started back in 2005 with their 'dreamy' and tickled pink ranges.  i loved not only the softness of the papers but also their versatility.

 

 

 

'playtime' and 'daydream' were probably the lines that first attracted my undying devotion .  sassafras lass design their papers with a light touch - the soft colour palettes are gelato and fresh - attractive whimsical designs that seem to be created to work with photos rather than overwhelm them.

   

the whimsy continued with 'scrumptious' which i thought truly was and inspired me to create the above, which is still one of my favourite layouts.  the sassafras lass papers just seem to beg to be cut out and into and mixing and matching them enables you to practically create your own patterned papers.

 

i love that the papers have their own unique style, playful and fresh patterns and colour palettes that can be pepped up or toned down without too much skill required.

the cutest owls are featured in 'owl pals' in both patterned papers and stamps and the pink and brown colour palette may have been completely predictable without the addition of the artful orange, the very element that lightens the colour story and adds the playful tone so ever-present in sassafras lass designs.

weekend inspiration: luxe designs

Polo Perfection!! is what Jaimie Emmerton says about this new range from Luxe Design. With so many fantastic designs to choose from in the Polo range it was difficult to limit herself to just a couple - so Jaimie used all of them to create the following pages.

 

Most of us only like to scrap the 'good' photos - so when Jaimie was faced with three very 'ordinary' pictures of her children she decided to challenge herself and scrap them. The bright and funky Luxe paper kept in with the fun approach Jaimie was after for her LO. Lots of action & fun with cut outs from the Fireworks paper, Luxe rubons, Plain Jane chipboard arrows and a mix and match title using Luxe die cut alphas and Fontwerks Clear stamps.

 

Oh yes - the quiet ones are the ones to watch, with this in mind Jaimie wanted to create a fun LO that kept with the tone of her page about her sons zany ways. Combining circles and squares with the lovely rich co-ordinating Luxe paper and Heidi Swapp journaling spots, Jaimie then added Luxe Sarong die cut alphas for a title that wouldn't be lost amongst the blue/green of the Polo range. Some Carolee's stickers and handwritten journaling finish of her page beautifully.

 

Steph loved the movement in the Luxe Papers especially the circles in the Pashmina Range. She has followed the flow of the shape by emphasizing it with sequins to lift the pattern off of the page. Her journalling was printed out in Word Perfect and run through her printer onto a jotter. The rub-ons form the perfect frame for Emma's name.

 

The talented Kerry Starr from Scrap in the Box has created this lovely page of her daughter Lauren using a mix of Luxe product from the Hoodie, Sarong and Cocktail Dress ranges.

Kerry says "I wanted to keep the layout fairly simple as there is hardly any colour on the photo and I didn't want to overwhelm it. I cut the flowers up into petals so that I could give the idea of most of the blooms beginning to open rather than fully formed flowers a bit like my daughter's journey into womanhood" Gorgeous Kerry and thankyou for allowing us to show your beautiful work.

In the moment is by Lecia Forrest of Canada and we were so awed by her fantastic use of the Polo Shirt range - the little additions of buttons and perfectly placed rubons makes for a wonderful eye-catching LO.

 

Subtlety is the key with this beautiful LO by Jane Hasty of the US. Jane has backed the Alphas onto black cardstock to make them pop on and the simple additions of rubons compliment her page without detracting from the lovely photo.

 

WOW was the catch cry when we saw this fabulous page by Luxe's Pam Lambie - there is so much to see and take in, this beautiful page belongs in a frame not an album.

 

More gorgeous work from Luxe's very talented Pam Lambie - the subtle tones work perfectly with the subdued photo and gives a sense of timeless elegance. Beautiful.

 

 

 

Pam Lambie has created this gorgeous keepsake box for someone special - the combination of pink and black is striking and the addition of the silk flower finishes off the project perfectly.

meet the dt: caz loves basic grey

It is no secret amongst my friends and the Aussie Scrap Source DT that I am a huge fan of BasicGrey. But few of them will know that it was through BasicGrey that I actually met Cheryl and first heard of Aussie Scrap Source. I was working in my friends scrapbooking store and saw an ad for BasicGrey paper and the phone number of the company that was going to bring it to Australia. I rang and spoke to Cheryl , trying to get a date out of her as to when it would arrive.  I don’t think I hounded her too much before it finally arrived but she may well have a different story!   And the rest as they say is history…

I think I have paper from every BasicGrey collection right back to the beginning. I hate the thought that they have discontinued a lot of the earlier lines and I wont be able to get the papers any more. It makes me want to buy a collection pack of each from somewhere and just keep it all new. Sad really. I have 3 Cropper Hopper Vertical Storage files filled only with my BG paper, all separated into individual collections.

 

Some of the collections I love and some I am not as fussed on but I love that the plains are distressed and so versatile. They will match so many of the other paper lines around. I think my all-time favourite so far is Stella Ruby but I think the new Two Scoops range may just become my new favourite.

 

I scrapped a couple of Christmas layouts using the BG Christmas lines. I love that these papers don’t look traditionally Christmassy and that they can be used for other types of layouts as well as for Christmas ones.

 

OMG! How mean can a big sister be? Jesse honestly thought that if he didn’t get his letter to Santa in on time then he was not going to be able to get anything on his list, but instead be stuck with all the ‘crap’ that no-one else wanted. No wonder he looks so sad.

BasicGrey Fruitcake and Blitzen Papers, Blitzen Letter Stickers, Undressed Chipboard Mini Monos topped with Fruitcake Mini Monograms, and carolees tiny letter stickers.

 

Seriously, these are some of the many things the kitties have left under our Christmas Tree this year. Luckily (well unluckily with the cockroaches) Raph brings them in so gently that they are unharmed and we are left to scramble around the lounge-room catching them and taking them back outside b4 they are played with a little too roughly.

The kitties think we erect the tree just for them. Every Christmas they are crawling under it and climbing in it before it is even up properly. The fact that we decorate it with lovely shiny things for them to pull off and play with is just an added bonus. We can’t even put the presents under the tree too early as Raph pulls the tags off and chews them up.

I have used BasicGrey Fruitcake paper teamed with a dark brown from the Stella Ruby range, Carolees tiny stickers, Queen & Co Brads and Arctic Frog Alpha Stickers. Nothing fancy but a memory of some of the presents the Kitties like to give us.

weekend inspiration: sassafras lass

We greet the new year with our first weekend inspiration post.

And now we kick off with a vibrant and inspiring collection of Sassafras Lass layouts from our own design team and other talented scrappers. 

 

 

When Chris saw the colours in the Indian Summer range she knew they'd be perfect for this wedding photo she's been waiting to scrapbook. Chris layered the papers and teamed them up with Basic Grey alphabet stickers to create this layout. The title is from one of her favourite songs by Bernard Fanning. Photo by Studio 7.

 

 

Chris felt these Sassafras Lass Indian Summer papers were just begging to be cut into. The flowers and swirls then become accents on her page. The buttons and hand drawn border finish it off nicely.

 

 

 

Caz is working on an album for herself based on her fellow design team member Nic Howard's book, "That's Life". There is a chapter on Innermost Thoughts, and while Caz's thoughts are usually a turmoil of what is to be done and what she has forgotten, she chose to do a layout about a place that she can really relax.
The warmth in these Indian Summer papers by Sassafrass Lass echo the warmth in the suns rays as it sets on the beach.

 

 

 

 

When we saw these two layouts on Janine Kaye's blog we knew we needed to share them here as well.  She has taken the beautiful Starry Nights range of Sassafras lass papers and created a cool beauty with her Christmas photos.  We love her 'rusty stuff' too!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Another fabulous Aussie talent, Danielle Quarmby has kindly allowed us to share a couple of her Sassafras Lass layouts as well.  Using Owl Pals papers in 'i lub it' and the ever popular spots from the Indian Summer range, Danielle shows us a freer approach to scrapbooking that we just 'lub' too!

 

 

 

Showing us how to use the Felicity range is Fiona Leehane with this gorgeous layout of her daughter. Fiona has set the papers against the black background for an eye-catching effect. Thank you for sharing your creation with us Fiona.

We thank Francine Clouden for this final layout using the Indian Summer papers. She lives in Lyon France, where amazing mushrooms like this abound.  She said she took these photos whilst picking mushrooms, they reminded her of all those Enid Blyton books she used to read.  Thanks for allowing us to share Francine - I remember those Enid Blyton books too!!
