we're starting a new series of fun posts aimed at getting to know our design team and perhaps sharing some of their favourite techniques and tips with you. look forward to us targeting a design team member each monday.
how this works: one dt member scraps a favourite photo in her typical style - and then she sends that photo to two other dt members, who scrap it in what they interpret to be the first dt members' style. simple!
our first victim artist is jaimie emmerton. what do you think? do you think they 'captured' her style?
I like a layered style - Its something I have always leant towards, I love the subtle feel of dimension that it gives to my work without being too overpowering and taking away focus from my photos. Lately I have fallen in love with little clusters of embellishments and cant seem to get enough of chipboard diecuts and shapes mixed with brads and buttons. I try to mix and match not only different paper ranges but also different paper companies - I'm always surprised at just how well various ranges 'fit' together which I feel adds interest to my pages.
In this LO I have kept to BasicGrey's Boxer range but have teamed it with other ranges from SEI Dill Blossom and Scenic Routes Salem and chipboard alphas with some Arctic Frog thrown in for good measure. The biggest 'issue' I have is journaling - generally I keep it very simple relying on quotes and large titles to add to the mood and message Im trying to convey. I realise that this doesn't always cut it and scrapbooking is so much more than nice pictures - its about memory and storytelling and being able to relive those happy and sad times which will show those generations to come that we really lived life and wanted them to know of our experiences and that we were so much more than a pretty picture. I'm learning to open up and trying to incorporate more honest 'real' journaling in my pages - not for you but for me and mine :o)
I thoroughly enjoyed this DT challenge and am looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretation of each others style.
Chris Millar: I looked back through many of Jaimie's layouts here on the blog to try and get a better feel for her style. What I quickly discovered is that Jaimie's style varies a lot depending on whether she is scrapping a photo of her boys or her little girl. I did notice that Jaimie works so well with bold, strong patterns and combines them so well. Some technique's that stood out to me with Jaimie's work was a little bit of paper tearing, overlapping of papers and her love for Carolee's Creations alpha stickers!
It was terrific to work with this lovely photo thanks Jaimie!
Donna found Jaimie a little difficult to emulate, purely because Jaimie's layouts are always changing - she is the master of an enormous range of scrapping styles. Trying to hone in on one particular thing wasn't entirely easy, but Donna chose a colour combination that she felt reflected Jaimie's 'taste'. The strong contrast of this layout ('Brotherly Love') with the richness of reds, browns and blues along with a cluster of embellishments, seemed most like something "Jaimie would do!".
