This week we targeted Nic Howard and her very distinctive style. Mel Goodsell and Jaimie Emmerton had a go and we think they definitely nailed some very 'Nic' layout characteristics.

I wanted to scraplift Nic because I have long been told that we share a similar style and I wanted to see how easy (or not) it would be. Nic has a definite and distinctive style with repeated elements on each of her LO's that give her projects that certain flair that makes it easy to spot a "Nic Howard" in the crowd, her beautifully simple and straight to the point journaling complete her projects to perfection every time.
While I don't think our work is similar in design, I do think we share similarities in our style the main ones being our love of large, mixed alpha titles and of course the layered look. Nic tends to keep her embellishments to a minimum, always knowing when to walk away so that her pages dont become an embellishment sneeze. The hardest part of scraplifting Nic was keeping everything straight ... EVERYTHING!!! Straight and perfectly measured. Im very very happy with how my 'lift' of the talented Nic Howard's work turned out and have thoroughly enjoyed this DT challenge.

I was really looking forward to scraplifting Nic's style for this challenge. I felt confident that Nic would select one of the Basic Grey ranges and also probably choose a chocolate brown shade of paper for her background....that was the easy part. Little did I realise that all the multi-layering Nic articulates so beautifully, was going to cause me so many problems!
When I look at my finished page I can't help thinking that this might just have been a 'Nic' layout from several years ago - in her earlier scrapbooking days perhaps. It was certainly a fun challenge though - and who couldn't pass up a chance to scrap those two gorgeous girls in the photo

BasicGrey has always been one of my staple paper manufacturers, so I decided to go with the tried and true with this layout. I love layering and creating new backgrounds, and this layout was no exception. I started by cutting and layering various BasicGrey Figgy Pudding papers to create a fairly neutral base, the pics had a lot of saturation, I wanted calm surroundings for them! As far as embellishing goes, I tend to go through phases of what I like to use - at the moment leaves and trees are my 'thing'. I used to be afraid of repeating things in various layouts but I've come to the conclusion that if I'm enjoying the process, I might as well go with it!
Another process I'm enjoying is the grouping of embellishments. It's not so obvious in this layout but I like to create little points of interest on the layout containing layers of different elements - on looking back at my other layouts it's usually the bottom left corner - I didn't realise I was that predictable! I usually finish my layouts off with a little fine pen detailing, occasionally machine stitching, and perhaps brads or rub-ons. It's placing the final small details on my layout that is always my favourite part.

LOL I LOVE it!! I love the lifts of me! The girls' layouts are beautiful.
I can still see a little of their own style in there but for most the part the girls really hit the nail on the head with so many things. I admit Jaimie already has had a flea in her ear about scrapping my style better than I can scrap my style! That wasn't in the plan was it? Mel's is gorgeous also, gosh I love her layers, and I think Jaimie is more 'me' than mine is.
