welcome to challenge one! we're so excited to get started on these challenges, the design team behind the scenes are divvying up your comments and requests and we have a six week schedule sorted covering twelve more of those challenges, starting next wednesday. We'll put all the challenges up shortly so that you can plan your time and your stash to suit. and go shopping if necessary! or not. remember it's all made up and the points don't matter!!
before that though, i have to say we've been overwhelmed by the massive response we've had to Challenge One: Project Tink - and it's not just quantity - we've been blown away by the quality of the submissions as well. Thank you so much to everyone who has joined in the spirit of our challenge and whipped up amazing work in a short space of time so that we can get underway - your enthusiasm is surely contagious!
Tinkering Ink even got in on the act, and sent us this gorgeous layout by their design team member Denine Zielinski. She has used their new Retro Metro line to create this gorgeous layout full of colour and texture - check out the beading on the flourish.
Suz Doyle had to 'improv' quite a lot more than she'd expected in the making of this layout, when her new kitten attempted to jump as high as her scrap desk, knocking black coffee over almost every Tinkering Ink paper she had laid out on it at the time. The coffee look may have worked well with a distressed theme, but not so much with 'bold and bright'.
So, with one and a half remaining unsoaked sheets, she decided to show that less is more on this layout, using Wild Woodland patterned papers and die cuts. Confining large patterns to small areas ensures that they don't overwhelm the page but still provide gorgeous eyecatching accents. In her journalling she describes how her son will puzzle (and quiz her) over who would win battles, and he'll happily pitch characters from completely different stories against each other, trying to figure out who is the stronger.
She created a slightly dodgy star as well, reflecting the wall light in the photo, stringing Queen & Co Beadiful along fine wire and looping through the back of the layout.
Cheryl Durey decided to play. She says about her layout: I love Tinkering Ink. I love the patterns - large and small - and I love the colour combinations. Given that I scrap boys mostly, I am less inclined to use the bright ranges with lots of girl colours but am a huge fan of the Westminster, Gibson, Haberdasher, Provincial Fare, Yuletide and Noir Blanc ranges. Even though this challenge called for use of bright and bold, I went with the brightest papers in one of the less bright ranges - Haberdasher. Bold I still have covered!!
Hidden journaling on die cut tag tucked under the photos reads: These photos are of Daniel (aged 5) helping to fill up my car. I found out this day that it is actually illegal to use the pump if you are under 16 (when the attendant turned off the fuel) but not before snapping these photos of Dan buckling under the pressure of holding that lever in. I just love the "when is this going to end" look on his face.
In keeping with the wliia mantra of improvisation, light-heartedness and fun, I used beads along the pump in the top photo to represent fuel flowing through the pump. Petrol is almost as expensive as gold at the moment so the gold beads also represent the money flowing out of my purse.
And now, without further ado, are your layouts. Top points that don't matter to each and everyone one of these layouts - there's some really cool ideas and inspiration here. It's great to see scrappers that arent afraid of using larger patterns on their pages, and if you have been until now, we hope we can change your mind! Dare yourself to do something different this weekend.
EDITED TO ADD: and now that we've got it sorted, we can unveil in the sidebar where you can vote! everyone who entered this first challenge will receive a small something from us to thank them for contributing at such short notice, but now you can also pick your favourite layout from the ones below and the winner will receive a prize pack of goodies from us at Aussie Scrap Source.
