Now we've waved goodbye to Whose Layout Is It Anyway (and thanks for all the lovely feedback - we've really enjoyed doing this and will definitely be looking at doing something similar again next year) we're starting a new Wednesday series. We're attempting to identify some of the current trends and fashions in scrapbooking, and challenging our design team to put their own spin on it.
This week it's 'inchies'. Tiny 1" squares of embellished deliciousness - the challenge is to find bits small enough to go on them to help tell your story. Have a scroll through to see what the design team have come up with, and have a think about what you could fit on a set of 1" squares of paper. You'll be surprised at how versatile they can be.
Using Inchies on this layout allowed Nicole to include many 'action' shots of her daughter Madeleine on the one page that she may have otherwise not scrapped.
Including Inchies in a horizontal line has allowed Nicole to use them as a border embellishment without detracting from her focal point photograph, and addition of the large Scenic Route arrow stopped the page becoming too busy.
Initially Donna wondered how on earth she could fit anything creative on a peice of cardstock 1 inch wide by 1 inch high?! The results of her efforts actually surprised her a little for this very reason. Donna found that the plethora of small tidbits lying around in her stash were absolutely perfect for this challenge. Not only was she able to showcase some of her favourite photos all on one page, but she was able to use up some of her less-used stash at the same time. What could be better than that!?
Carole has used the idea of inchies in a whole different way, as you can see here she has used them as a background and also in creating her embellishments such as the sun and the tree, they are both built up of squares which are then shaped and chalked in a deeper matching colour around the edges.
Carole has used the inchies in the window and door on the big house, on the purple heart to the left and in the little house on the hill, and added a touch of small embellishments here and there to finish off. The papers Carole used were the gorgeous range of Crate Paper Sweet Branch Collection.
With her leftovers, Carole also created this cute little gift bag, she embellished the squares with cut out pieces from the patterned paper, and also made beautiful use of some of the gorgeous Sweet Branch Chipboard Buttons.
Caz kept her inchies project quite simple. She cut up this favourite photo of her daughter Darcy and her friends celebrating Darcy's birthday into inch squares. Each square was then mounted on chipboard and sanded around the edges.
A border of inchies was added around the edge using BasicGrey paper that tied in with the colours on the girls matching t-shirts (The shirts say "I love my friends" and all 4 of the girls have them).
To finish off Caz added 4 little chipboard hearts covered in matching paper.
Mel created this sweet little canvas for her daughter's bedroom using a collection of Heidi Swapp felt shapes (which were hand stitched into position), Queen & Co felt brads and Felt Fusion. For the background Mel cut up a pink Queen & Co felt solid strip into inchies. Because the solid strip has a strong adhesive backing it holds perfectly onto the canvas. A perfect addition to any little (or big) girls room!
Chris Millar also decided to make a hanging for her daughters room, but with stamps and watercolour pencils rather than felt and fabric!
Chris adapted an idea she saw in a stamping book a long time ago and created this card using inchies. Chris stamped the Hero Arts Old French Writing stamping with white ink onto black cardstock and then with black ink onto white cardstock. Then she cut out inch squares and attached them to her card base in a chequered effect.
