introducing: rouge de garance

 

 

Having the chance to play with Rouge De Garance is like dipping your paintbrush into a rainbow. The patterned papers are the most vivid hues of rainbow colours & a palette that Steph couldn't resist. Here she has used border punches & tearing technique to create her strips which form the background for the image. Steph has hand cut the little Rouge De Garance brightly coloured birds & pretty flowers. To add some texture to her layout, Steph has tied a frayed bow of yellow dots & adhered it to the page.

 

 

Chris just loved the bright and fabulous colours of the Adele range and decided to make a set of birthday cards. By layering the patterns and adding some gems and flowers the set of cards fit nicely into the cards box and are all ready to be whipped out next time a birthday comes along. Chris also personalised one of the cards by cutting out the 'A' from the Adele paper and placing it on a card for her daughter Annaliese.

The Jenni Bowling crepe ribbon and polka dot chipboard buttons match perfectly as embellishments to accompany the Adele range.

weekend inspiration: cosmo cricket

Taking the Early Bird theme literally, Nicole created this fun layout of her sleepy-head daughter Madeleine. Maddy is notorious for taking a long time to wake up in the morning and Nic wanted to make sure she recorded this in Maddy's album.

She started with a base of white cardstock and masked it using Tim Holtz masks, Glimmermist and Distress Ink and then built her layout on top using Cosmo Cricket papers and a mixture of embellishments from the Early Bird range along with a few other bits and pieces from her stash.

 

 

Jaimie got to play with the new cosmo early bird range, she chose the crafting kit as it has everything that you will need to create a load of projects. Jaimie used the spinner as an extention of her journaling, instead of using the spinner as a whole she cut it down and placed it on her page so it looks as though it is peaking out from beneath her layered strips of paper.

Jaimie placed her photo (a delicious looking latte) and then layered various pieces from the crafting kit to create interest and depth to her page, stickers, brads, frames, diecuts and of course the spinner make for a retro page all about her favourite fantasy of enjoying a cup of coffee in peace.

We're so excited to welcome Davinie Fiero to our blog to share this delicious layout with you. We love the sunny feel to it. Here's what Davinie said about this product line, "I adore everything Cosmo Cricket and I particular love the Apron Strings pattern in the Early Bird line, which is why I used it as the base paper for this layout. The color palette in this line works for many different themes and the other products available work very well together."

 

This amazing recipe box and coin bank were created by Danni Reid using the Early Bird range. We especially love how she has taken the themed products and adapted them to suit her project perfectly, and what a cheerful way to save your coins! Thanks Danni.

introducing: aussie cardstock!

 

 

For this challenge Mel decided to create a page using a few colours that are a little outside her usual comfort zone, combining Aussie Scrap Source cardstock in crimson, tangerine and ocean. To mimic the design in one of her photos, she punched circles out of the textured cardstock and trimmed them down to create a scattering of octo-flowers (although many of the flowers didn't end up with 8 sides!).

Circular embellishments were added to the flower centres and they were each finished off with a little bling (BG individual rhinestones - indigo/sky).

Carole created this adorable frame from the New Aussie Scrap Source Cardstock, there are so many gorgeous colours to choose from.
Carole created embellishments for flowers and created a frame by quilling and layering flowers and by curling, crimping and stamping the cardstock, Carole also enhanced the cardstock with chalk and some distressing.

You can use a quilling tool to created the the circles to the purple flowers, and use a small amount of glue to stick the end down. To create the centres to the purple and yellow flowers, you will first need to create fine cuts along the strip of cardstock, and then curl the cardstock around the quilling tool, stick the end down and spray apart.

 

Caz is so excited about the arrival of the new Aussie Scrap Source textured cardstock as she has long been a fan textured cardstock as it is so forgiving when you work with it. Here she has teamed it up with some Quickutz Revolution dies to make some quick cards. The teachers ones have been put away for the end of the year presents and the chandelier ones will be used as Birthday cards.

 

Chris says that the Quickutz doublekutz dies are perfect for working with the new texture cardstock and with a little help from a bit of stamping and heat embossing can create a fabulous card! Chris wanted a slightly darker shade of cardstock for certain parts of the pram die cut so she inked those pieces with a darker shade of ink. By adding a couple of buttons and some ribbon Chris's card was complete.

And here Chris shows us the baby girl version of the card.

 

        

Chris shows us how to create some super fun gift cards in a cute circle shape by combining the fabulous new textured cardstock and some wonderful stamping techniques. Stamps the Hero Arts woodgrain stamp onto caramel cardstock and then put it through your die cut machine using the Quickutz short tree die cut, this will create such a life like trunk for the tree shape and embossing the bushy part of the die cut tree will also add great texture.

The Hero Arts Cloud stamp adds a fabulous background, I've used blue ink onto white cardstock to create this effect. Put all the elements of the card together and you have a fabulous little gift card that you can replicate to create a set.

colours and words week 13 - simple

 

 

At first Chris found this colour scheme quite challenging, then she remembered this photo of her husbands indoor cricket team and thought the colours could work together - well she was right! Chris has used We R Memory Keepers MVP range mostly on this layout as well as mixing in some Basic Grey Offbeat buttons. She also pulled out the old trick of 'if you can't find an alphabet in the colour you are after then hand cut it from cardstock.'

For the word prompt Chris has used 'simple' in her title and this is what her journalling says "Mens 2008/09 indoor cricket team. The team lost 8 games on the trot, but did win the vital games that put them into the Semi’s and then the final. The team they came up against in the final had beaten them quite convincingly during the season, but the boys pulled out their best game of the season when it counted. They thrashed em’!"

 

   

Blue, orange and green are three of Mel's favourite colours to scrap with, so given that this challenge included three of those colours, it was an easy choice for product. Mel chose to keep the page relatively simple as she wanted to use the layout as a front page for a camping album that she is working on at the moment. The chipboard buttons and diecuts are from the Crate Static range - such warm, rich colours and the buttons are easily added to the page with their adhesive backing.

The main title has been gently lifted off the page to add extra dimension and the hand stitching around the edge ties everything together and gives another texture to the page.
Keeping with the theme for the challenge, Mel included journaling (alongside the long colourful strip) talking about the simple pleasures of getting away in their camper as a family.

weekend inspiration: jenni bowlin

 

For this layout Mel used a selection of Jenni Bowlin mini papers (front porch), cutting them up into shapes to mimic the design in the crocheted blanket featured in the photo. They were then machine stitched into position and a title was added combining Jenni Bowlin chalkboard alphas (red) and the top portions of some bingo cards (Jenni Bowlin, birthday). Extra dimension was created by lifting the bingo card titles off the page with foam mounting tape.

Caz created these cute cards using the Jenni Bowlin Studios Mini Bingo Cards, Jenni Bowlin Front Porch Mini Papers and Jenni Bowlin Felt Shapes. She used the words in the Bingo Cards as the base for the greeting and added the rest using Carolee's letter stickers and mini jewelry tags.

Many thanks to the lovely Ranjini for this layout which she modestly describes as "Just a collage of scalloped hearts using papers from the Jenni Bowlin Studio Front Porch range and lots of little embellies". We think it is stunning and such a great way to use up small pieces of leftover patterned paper.

  This beautiful page by Jana Eubank caught our eye and we couldn't resist sharing it. What we loved was Jana's delightful use of Jenni Bowlin floral papers on a boy page, combined with graphic shapes like circles and bold lines which keeps the layout from feeling too feminine.

Another striking layout by Jana Eubank! Jana cleverly made the Jenni Bowlin Mini Bingo Card do double duty on this page. The top portion of the card was used as a "tab" at the top of the photo. The bottom portion of the card (that would have been hidden behind the photo) has been used as an additional accent on the page. A star shape has also been punched out of it using the negative space to anchor a letter monogram. Thanks so much for sharing both your layouts Jana.

 

And finally – some gorgeous layouts by Jenni Bowlin herself showcasing the lovely browns and reds of the Town Square range, as well as making wonderful use of her new rubons which turns any old plain cardstock into a masterpiece!  Thanks Jenni!

colours and words week 12 – random

 

 

Jaimie has used a random photo and clustered random embellishments in her colour challenge page.

Random is a word that Caz hear alot in her house. Everything seems to be random to teenage girls these days. Caz decided to do another page for her 'book of lists'. She loves to collect quotes to use on layouts and these quotes are her all time favourites. They are printed out and sticky taped to her wall near her desk on scraps of paper but Caz felt that they needed a permanent record of their own.

They epitomize Caz in a way - a quote about jeans (her fav clothing), a quote about not accepting growing older, a quote about photography (her fav hobby) and a quote about being true to yourself (something she is always telling her kids).

Caz has noticed people using these random circle accents to decorate their pages lately and decided to have a go herself. She simply punched out 3 different sized circles, distressed the edges using her fingernail, stuck them on top of each other and added a button. Not high tech stuff but she was very happy with the result.

introducing: websters pages

 

 

Webster's released their Cherry Pie line, in celebration of the 4th of July - Independence Day. Here Steph shows that the paper can be used for so much more, and even better for a girly layout. She has cut out and machine stitched the stars and clustered cherries around the outline. The vintage signs are on the back of the double sided paper, and these add a unexpected element to the page. The Hambly transparancy frames just add that little feminine touch to the papers which accentuate the white base.

 

 

Magical Wishes is Steph's favourite Webster's Pages line, and she has created a mini landscape in a 8.5" x 11 format. Magical Wishes is such a beautifully feminine set of papers which is accentuated by the stunning Webster's Pages Trims. Steph has mixed other papers in from the Hello Beautiful and Sweet Life lines, one of which has the little bird cut out from it.

Steph inked the bird in vibrant Versa Cube colours to make the image stand out in the die cut tree. Overall, this vista is a gorgeous addition to any studio or wall in your house.

 

Once again Magical Wishes was Steph's choice for this layout of her daughter Madison. She has created a wave title adorned with painted Basic Grey alpha stickers to match the color story. The roses in the Magical Wishes line are so pretty and they can be cut out and adhered to the base with 3D tape. This gives the layout a really magical look.

 

  

Nicole is absolutely delighted with the classic colours and vintage-inspired design of Webster's Pages papers and embellishments as they have the gorgeous homely feel that she adores. Here she has showcased the "Hello Beautiful" range of papers and embellishments to create this lovely layout detailing a conversation she had with her daughter Madeleine.

Suz used the stunning ‘Reflections of Nature’ paper line in this journalling-heavy layout about how travelling away from your kids is a double edged sword.  She loved the soft colour palette which allowed the patterns to take a back seat and have her story and photo the focus, while still adding a beautiful splash of femininity to her page.  She has layered some of the Websters trims to direct attention to the title – but her main love was the alpha stickers – four sets of alphabet on a 12x12 page in four colours and two different sizes allows her exactly the type of flexibility she needs when formulating titles.

 

One of Webster's Pages Design Team girls, Lucy Edson was wonderful enough to share some of her gorgeous work with us. Kitchen Closed is a eclectic mixture of Cherry Pie Papers and mixed media. This sign would look fantastic in any retro kitchen.

weekend inspiration: carolee’s creations

 

This delightful layout by Mel showcases the funky new 'Life's a Hoot' range by Carolee's Creations. Comprising of patterned papers, ribbons and stickers the range covers a lovely warm array of colours. Mel has worked with a sheet of Owl Hoot B paper for her background and added a selection of stickers and also a strip of Hoot Stripe patterned paper to resemble the river in the photograph. The sweet owl in the top right hand corner is by Hero Arts (Big Hoot) and completes the layout perfectly.

 

This bright layout by Nic Howard combines new release Carolee's papers with some of the current ones, something Nic says she loves doing. Nic loved the new 'Fern' range (also known as the Hoot range), but loved adding the bold colours of the Whoopsy Daisy collection as well. Layered and distressed in true Nic style, the middle border was created with Carolee's papers, Twiddleybitz bullrush border, Hambly transparency and invisibles butterflies from Heidi Swapp.

Nic finished her layout with a dimensional title, layering black Rose Moka letters, white BasicGrey alphas and Collage Press Camden blue lettering to finish.

 

It was hard to go past this layout when we saw it online - so bright and cheery, using some of our favourite new bright papers from Carolee's. U.S. designer, Alison Lindhardt created this layout, thanks for letting us share, Alison!

 

A gorgeous summer layout by Tammy Anderson. This layout combines a wide range of Carolee's papers and products, including one of our favourites - the foam alphabet. Thanks for letting us share, Tammy!

 

Camping’s not for everyone (some of us need hairdryers!) but if you’re after camping theme papers,these Carolee’s ones are perfect. Debbie Raymond showcases them here in this fun layout.

 

Another take on the fun camping papers by Alison Lindhart, who has transformed them into this gorgeous mini album.

 

These lovely flowery papers were too pretty to go past, and we thank Jana Eubank for turning them into such a stunning layout.  Love the contrast of the black ribbon against them – just perfect. 

Also by Jana Eubank who shows us there’s no reason we can’t celebrate Dads with daisies!  These are the Prairie, Wild Patch and Field of gold papers, along with the foam alphabet.

 

And how cute is this mini album by Lisa Day.  She uses papers from lots of different Carolee’s ranges – we love how they all work together.

 

Georgana Hall uses Snow papers that are almost as cute as her photographs in this fabulous double layout.

And a final beautiful page again from Jana Eubank using Sugar Frosting Papers and 3-D Family Stickers.  Thanks to everyone for allowing us to show your projects here.

colours and words: week 11

 

 

 

Steph found these colours really easy to work with, and the Basic Grey Lemonade range was perfect for this challenge. Bright pinks, greens, yellows and blues are showcased on this fun layout of her daughter Emma. She distressed all the edges with Heidi Swapp's Edge Distresser and then inked them in the gorgeous inks that Hero Arts distribute.

Steph added that home made touch with plenty of machine stitching and she made her own flowers and leaves using the new Aussie Scrap Source Cardstock. I think you will agree that they just finish off this lovely creation.

 

 

This colour challenge lent itself more to a girlie type layout, but Carole managed to sneak her son into the picture as well lol !!
The vibrancy of these colours was really beautiful and some of Carole's favourite colours, so she decided to make this layout more delicate and pretty, and utilise the use of pretty butterflies and other cute embellishments to match.
