weekend inspiration: basicgrey

Caz was lucky enough to play with the new BasicGrey range - Eerie. Even though her kids do sometimes trick or treat for Halloween she decided to do a couple of non Halloween layouts to show you how versatile it is. The range is full of bats and spiders, as well as having trees, lightening bolts and black cats. Each of the papers is double sided and the colours are so gorgeous. Perfect for super-hero pages, and pages about boys, bugs etc etc.

The paper and stickers with the bats on was perfect for this photo of her son Jesse when he was little in his Batman outfit.

This rather cheeky comment came from Caz's son Jesse while he gazed at the cobweb hanging from one of the upstairs light fittings. Caz can only reach the light fittings with a ladder and can't really be bothered carrying it all the way upstairs so it is still there. lol.

The spider and spider web papers in the Eerie range fit the page perfectly. The large black web is actually cut from the packaging on the Tim Holtz Spiderweb Mask packet.

Basic Grey is known for their beautiful rich hues and exotic patterns, and Indian Summer fulfills all these expectations and more. Steph has used 5 different Indian Summer Patterned Papers and cut out distinctive images to add to her vibrant collage. She has incorporated the beautiful Basic Grey Indian Summer Woolies which add texture and diversity to her layout. By addiing the tulle, Steph has created softness on these quite heavy colors, and secured the tulle with a stunning glazed brad.

What we love about Kelly Goree, is her amazing sense of design. Here she has combined a mixture of patterned papers and used contrasting patterns and shapes to intensify the impact of her design.

Caz thought you might enjoy this pretty layout by Jeannie Rivera using the Ambrosia range from basicgrey. We love the beautiful spray of butterflies she has hand cut from the patterned paper to showcase such a happy photo.

These three beautiful cards feature BasicGrey's Eskimo Kisses range were created by the talented Amy Tara Koeppel. How effective is the stitching on these cards? Those cut little mittens joined by the hand stitched words are to die for. Thanks so much for sharing Amy Tara.

Even though BasicGreys Lemonade range is not one of the newest ranges, we just gad to show you all this gorgeous album created by Berdien Weideveld from the Netherlands. She was just blown away by the detail that Berdien has included on each and every page. You can spend ages looking at each page and still not see all the little features included. Such a lot of time and talent went into created such a beautiful keepsake. Thanks for allowing us to share your album with our readers Berdien.

And finally, how gorgeous are these Christmas tags created by Aida from Singapore using the Basicgrey Eskimo Kisses range. They would be perfect as place cards for the Christmas dinner table, grouped in a little bucket for a centrepiece or even hung from the tree by a ribbon. Thanks for sharing with us Aida.

product focus: 3d quickutz dies

 

The new Quickutz 3d dies are just beautiful, and perfect for adding a little dimension to your projects.  Suz has used the Flower3 and Flourish dies on this quick and simple layout – there’s no doubt that die cuts make short work of adding a beautiful detail when time is limited, without detracting from the subject of the page.  Suz has cut out both SEI Mimosa papers and Hambly transparencies with the dies – the transparency curls fabulously and adds yet another texture.

Caz was lucky enough to get to play with some of the new Quickutz 3d dies. She chose the bird and birdhouse 4x4 die and the flourish 4x4 die.combined with the Quickutz tree border die to create a layout about how her daughter is such a homebody.

Caz created this layout while her daughter was staying in Canberra on a school exchange program. It got to the 3rd and last night and she could tell by her daughters voice how much she longed to be home with her family and her 'stuff' even though she was having such a good time. She has included on the back of the page the self motivational post-its she found on Jordan's mirror when she had left - "Don't be scared" "Text message Mum everyday but don't waste credit" "But most of all, HAVE FUN!!"

Once again Caz has used the bird/house and the flourish dies. To make this sweet card she combined the die-cuts she made with some of the new die-cuts and paper from the Crate Paper Bliss range. A perfect card for someone who is moving to a new home or to welcome someone home.

inspired by: home decor

Steph lept for joy when she found out she had been assigned Inspired by Home Decor. Being a former Interior Decorator she had a chance to showcase some of her favourite home decor items and then make the translation through scrapbooking products. Steph has always loved French Provincial Wares, and the dress form, peacock, roses, chic stripes and parisian whimsy comes through on this layout using Webster's Pages, Postcards from Paris story.

   

Carole created this super cute shelf to hold Sarah's Russ Design Collectables using Pink Paislee Cupid Collection. Carole's inspirations came from the beautiful advertisement in the handmade magazine showing a gorgeous quilt draped over a chair with the beautiful gingham and lovely soft colour scheme.

weekend inspiration: crate paper

 

Carole created this layout using the very Funky Bliss Collection by Crate Paper, with its pop culture type papers, stickers and embellishments.

The fun shapes and funky flowers with cute sayings made this collection really enjoyable and easy to use. Lots of vibrant purples and pinks with a dash of lime, a real experience and so much fun.

     

Mel used the beautiful range of Cottage papers and embellishments to create this layout, a reminder of a 'daddy and daughter' date to the movies a few months ago. A centre strip (picket fence) was hand stitched onto the page with a ric-rac sticker (from the Cottage embellishments) positioned along the chocolate edge. Circles were then punched out from other patterned papers in the range and blanket stitched onto the background (Path) before adding a few brads to complete the page.

  

Another layout by Mel using the gorgeous Cottage range from Crate Paper. A sheet of Fireflies was used for the background and then various patterned papers from the range were handcut out to embellish around the photograph. The sweet softie in the photo was a weekend project created by Mel and her daughter, repurposing an old woolen glove to create a cuddly bear. The Art rubons in the Cottage range include elegant flowers and words, which were both perfect to complete the page.

Thanks so much to Petrina McDonald for sharing one of her layouts with us again. This sweet page showcases some patterned paper and stem stickers by the Lillian Range and the little bit of cuteness in the photograph is Petrina's niece, taking after her Mama and two Aunties with the camera on Christmas day. We loved the simplicity of the page and the sweet machine stitching around the photograph.

product focus: trims

 

Steph has always loved the Webster's Pages Trims and she couldn't wait to share this technique with you. Steph got the Webster's Lace and cut the size she wanted for the gathered frill. Then she took a thin piece of organaza and threaded it through the tiny holes in the pattern of the lace. Once she had threaded the organza though to the end of the lace all she had to do was pull and she could adjust the gathers accordingly. She adhered it to the scallop circle with double sided tape.

           

Bobbly trims, with their fluffy texture and comfy colours scream Winter to Nicole, so with that in mind she created this little book showcasing some of her favourite Winter photos.

She started with a delicious Tattered Angels Glimmer Glass album and went from there using papers, die cuts and other embellishments from Webster's Pages, Cosmo Cricket and Grungeboard to name but a few. Transforming the pages in this plain album was easy ands lots of messy fun, using Glimmermist and Glimmer Screens, and every page features Webster's Pages bobbly trims for the ultimate in cosiness!

The various textures in this album invite the viewer to touch it creating yet another interaction between project and viewer and bobbly trim brings that invitation no matter what it is attached to.

inspired by: advertisements

 

This advertisement found online had so much to offer in the way of inspiration, from colour to design, there was so much to spark Nic's creativity. Nic chose to take the basic colouring of the advertisement, and portray that in her layout. Once she started choosing products she realised the general design of the advertisement was inspirational in itself, and that become the focus as well.

Nic used Heidi Swapp papers to create a base of blue and white. She then wrote extensive journaling on the blue, reflecting the design of the small paragraphs in the advertisement. Twiddleybitz shapes were used to emulate the flowers in the advertisement with extra touches from Webster's pages.

 

  

Suz has had this ad hanging on her ‘inspiration wall’ since last christmas, and this was obviously the perfect time to use it.  More of a scraplift than an ‘inspired by’ Suz drew from the colour palette as well as the design and the result is a clean simple and balanced page.

She has used beautiful Rouge de Garance patterned papers, SEI chipboard die cuts and a mixture of alphas, including SEI ChickADoo and BasicGrey White Chocolate.

introducing: our third new design team member!

 

Last but not least of our new additions to our design team is the beautiful talent of Janine Koczwara, who’s pages we’ve admired elsewhere and also on our blog as a guest contributor.

(And speaking of new additions we want to congratulate Janine on the arrival of her youngest baby boy, Ashton, born only last week!)

 

 

Janine created this LO from 3 different collections of Webster’s pages. She has hand-cut the papers for the different elements she wanted and collaged them together around the photo. Janine loves the Webster’s Pages lines for the wonderful femininity they exude and are perfect for hand cutting elements out of.

 

 

Janine loves to mix and match her papers and on this layout she has used Scenic Route, Crate Paper, Webster’s Pages, BasicGrey, a hint of Sassafras Lass and finished off with Heidi Swapp chipboard lettering for the title!

 

 

Janine loved the new Crate Paper Cottage release from CHA and knew she wanted to use it. The colour palette is so unique with its bright earthy tones.

introducing: another new design team member!

 

Louise Nelson is our second addition to the Aussie Scrap Source Design team.  We love her unique style and look forward to seeing her take on Aussie products.

With her first brief we asked to her share something of herself using her current favourite brands and products. 

Welcome Lou!

 

Louise just couldnt go past the colour palate of the Basic Grey Indian Summer range; it was the perfect contrast, and at the same time complement, to the rustic earthy toned colours of her photo. Couple that with the lush and vibrant 'Sapphire' Glimmermist and she has achieved a delicious visual vibrancy with this layout.

 

Louise just loves to use Hambly overlays. Their versatility and often quirky designs lend themselves perfectly to her style and love of the unique. Whilst she often prefers to scrap simply she still loves to use embellishments to complement her photo(s) and layout design. The textured wicker paper and the sublime earthy colours of the SEI buttons were a perfect compliment to the subtle grunge pattern of the Hambly overlay.

The rustic Pressed Petal metal alphas Louise has used, have 'completed' the subtle grunge effect she has created.

 

 

   

If there is a product that Louise cant go past it would be one made of fibre!! On this particular layout Louise has incorporated her love of fibre and texture, the natural look wicker, and material and vinyl tags along with the embossed chipboard and elegant pearlised buttons, have helped her to achieve a soft, slightly grunged, earthy look to complement her photo.

introducing: a new design team member

 

We’re thrilled to announce some new design team members over the next few days.  The fabulously talented Kathie Link needs little introduction here on the Aussie Scrap Source blog, as her gorgeous work has already been featured in many a post.

Here she shares her first official design team work, featuring projects both about herself and her current favourite materials.

 

  

The colours and design of the new Webster’s Pages line, Natures Storybook were perfect for a layout Kathie had in mind to celebrate the first days of Spring.

Kathie loves to create little scenes on her pages. Here, she’s handcut various elements from the papers and combined them to create a flourishing springtime garden at the base of her page.

A photo mat of frayed, unbleached calico adds to the organic feel of this page. A Hambly overlay houses the journaling and adds a touch of depth and elegance. To finish off the layout, Kathie’s used the Nature letter stickers; these are so elegant and come in a smaller size which is perfect for longer titles and sub-titles.

 

There are some manufacturers that constantly produce outstanding product for those of us with boys to scrap. Cosmo Cricket is one of these manufacturers and is a firm favourite of Kathie’s.

The Boyfriend range she’s used here includes a mix of neutrals and brights and features the most fun, retro chipboard embellishments. Kathie’s used the more neutral papers to create this cosy layout about a favourite hat from her son’s wardrobe. The wood alphas that coordinate with this range are bold and perfect for masculine pages. Once again, Kathie’s combined a touch of Hambly – using a grungy piece of an All Mixed Up overlay to add a bit of contrast and depth at the bottom of the page.

 

Sassafras Lass seem to release one line after another of happy, vibrant products and is one of Kathie’s favourite manufacturers. Their Monstrosities range is so bright and quirky; and perfect for pages about all those little monsters we love.

Handstitching provides the structure for this layout. Small pieces of bright patterned paper create a patchwork of colour that complements the candid photos of her son.

A couple of sprays of Glimmer Mist have added interest to what would otherwise be a pristine white background (which somehow seemed inappropriate for this little fellow who’s always up to messy mischief), while the cute little felt monsters and a sprinkling of coordinating brads add to the happy feel of this page.

weekend inspiration: technique tuesday

Suz saw this page by Ali Edwards earlier this year at CHA and just loved it.  Containing an exclusive set of stamps designed just for this kit, Suz loved the simplicity of the page  loved the versatility of the stamps, and so of course when the Everyday Life Page Kit was received in stock at Aussie, Suz couldn’t wait to get her hands on it. 

 

And so here she uses the same page kit and many of the elements from it, including the stamps to create a layout about her son’s wonderful imagination and a record of a story he has written.  The title is also a Technique Tuesday set of alphas called Provence (Lower Case) and it’s a font she loves for it’s classic outline, but with a beautiful decorative touch.

  

Chris has created the following sets of baby girl, baby boy and neutral cards and gift tags sets with the totally adorable 'cute as a button' Technique Tuesday stamp set. Chris has teamed this with the Deja Views Sharon Ann Baby Boy and Baby Girl papers. I think you'll agree that they are just too cute!!!

For a bit of extra pop, cut out the stamped images and adhere them to your card with 3D foam tape.

Chris positioned the 'heaven sent' in an arc on her clear stamp block before stamping it to create this lovely little round scalloped card.

Joining us now to show her skills with Technique Tuesday stamps is Teri Anderson!

For the card on the left Teri has used the 'Frayed Ends' and 'Delightful Daisies' stamps and for the cards on the right Teri has used the 'Capture the moment' stamp by Ali Edwards, which is actually a journalling stamp. Here's how Teri created the cards.

“I stamped the Capture the Moment stamp twice on two different colours of cardstock. Cut out the journaling block. Flipped it over and stamped one of the Growing Wild stamps on the blank side".

introducing: rouge de garance

Lace papers are one of those new products with plenty of versatility, as Nic Howard shows with this Rouge De Garance layout. Rouge De Garance creates a range of fine lace papers with coordinating patterned papers and Nic has used both here. She has used the patterned paper as a border with a sheet of Aussie Scrap Source white cardstock to build the base of the layout.

Nic cut a small portion of the lace paper, with plenty left over, to use as a border embellishment under the photo. Adding some circles and handmade flowers from the deep colours of the Rouge De Garance Village de'herbe range and the page was nearly complete.

Final details include smaller pieces cut from more of the RDG Village de'herbe papers, BasicGrey alphas and Opalines, and journaling to finish. Nic mentioned that each sheet of RDG paper had plenty of possibilities to cut out, colours are rich and varying, it's easy to get a range of colours from your layout from one sheet!

  

 

Suz loved the richness of colours in the Rouge de Garance Aile ou Fleur range – a saturation of blues, browns and the most stunning limes make these papers pure eye candy.  The circle theme clearly worked with her photos and she chose a simple colour blocking layout to best showcase them.

 

  

The Urbaine range of papers from Rouge de Garance has so much going on in it that you don't need to add much more to create eye-catching pages. Caz has teamed the papers up with some chipboard alphas and shapes to create these bright funky pages. The first showing her sons current career choices at 8 years of age, and the second... well showing that her eldest doesn't do mornings very well, particularly camping mornings which involved a very late night the night before.

These versatile papers are all double sided meaning that even though there are only 6 papers in the range, Caz has so far managed to create 4 completely different looking layouts with plenty of paper left over for at least 4 more.

weekend inspiration: cherryArte

 

 

The beautiful colours in the cherryArte Vanilla Vintage papers were the perfect match for the jumper Caz's daughter is wearing in these photo. Caz kept the layout simple but managed to incorporate 5 different papers plus a card containing hidden journaling that slips in behind the main photo.

 

Suz used the lovely strong colours of the “Seasonal” range to create this simple but effective layout of her boys ‘playing’ with their welding kit.  The cherryArte colour storeys are unusual but easy to mix and match, and look particularly effective against white cardstock.  

 

   

Thanks to the lovely Emeline Seet from Singapore for sharing the above three layouts with us. The first one uses a mix of Seasonal and Deco Hall. The second has a mix of Seasonal and Vanilla Vintage and in the the third one Emeline has used mainly Vanilla Vintage. You can see how each of these paper ranges is easily able to be mixed and matched to create gorgeous layouts.

 

Thanks to Pam Callaghan for allowing us to share this lovely layout about herself and her Son using the cherryArte Vanilla Vintage papers. Such a simple idea to use the petal shapes this way but so effective.

And these last two layouts come to us from the talented Sheri Reguly. Sheri has blown us away with her ability to create such striking layouts such as this one here using the Vanilla Vintage range. I think you'll agree that the Vanilla Vintage papers look awesome against the crisp white background.

 

And in this layout Sheri has taken full advantage of the double sided paper from the Seasonal range and created another fabulous layout. Only minimal embellishments are needed with paper this fantastic! Many thanks to Sheri for sharing her wonderful layouts with us!

product focus: lace cuts

 

There are a fabulous range of beautiful and intricate lace cut papers coming out at the moment – BasicGrey, SEI, Little Yellow Bicycle and Rouge de Garance are all stamping their own individual looks on to them.  They’re easy and beautiful to use, adding an intricacy to pages and projects with very little effort.

 

 

Carole loved creating with the new Lace sheets (intricate Cut paper) by Basic Grey, Carole used the cute June Bug Collection and also the Chip Sticky Shapes. The colours of this range are very vibrant and very colourful. The lace sheets are very versatile you can use them as full sheets or you can cut them into pieces as shown by Carole to make borders etc.,

 

 

 

And here Suz has used stunning Rouge de Garance Fine Designs – these come in a pack with a sheet of lace paper and a co-ordinating double sided cardstock weight patterned paper.  Suz has saved the patterned papers for future projects though, and has used just lace cuts on this gorgeous little 4x6” Scrapworks purse album. 

She found these ‘beauty secrets’, often attributed to Audrey Hepburn  but actually written by Sam Levenson, and decided to use them as a lasting keepsake to remind her make up loving six year old that beauty on the inside is more important.
