Kathie’s four year old son draws and paints with creative abandon. She was particularly taken with this example of finger painting that he brought home from kindergarten just before Christmas. The paints have been mixed with glitter, so it’s a beautifully textured piece of “artwork” (as he refers to his paintings).
Kathie based the colour palette of her layout on the colours of pink, turquoise and white that Jamie selected for his painting. The design of Jamie’s art provided the starting point for the design of the layout – with glimmer mist used to colour the right hand side of the plain white backdrop.
While Kathie was tempted to finger paint the background, she’s settled for a simple misted background, which allows her to build up the layers on the page. To finish off the layout, she has applied Stickles liberally.
The font Kathie’s used for her title was inspired by the perfect handwriting that pre-primary teachers universally seem to have perfected. The placement of the title is in a similar position to the label on Jamie’s painted page.
On Easter Saturday, after the kids had gone to bed, Nicole walked past her daughter Madeleine's room and spotted the note Maddy had left for Easter Bunny. She had carefully written it on her whiteboard and then created a little basket to hang on the doorknob ready to receive her treasured Easter eggs. It was so cute and quietly thoughtful that Nic just had to photograph it before the bunny had been and the set up destroyed.
When it came to scrapping said memory, Nic took her inspiration directly from the source and used an Easter card that Maddy had created for her, complete with beautiful drawings and glued on flocking. Nic created a coloured photocopy using her scanner and printed it onto a piece of October Afternoon grid printed paper. This gave the handmade embellishments some softness and depth making them look more like embellishments than drawings.
The result, which I'm sure you will agree is adorable and completely unique and within the feeling and theme of the photos and story and best of all Miss Maddy was delighted that her Mum made this page with her special drawings on it.
