Suz chose one of the beautiful 7gypsies receipt holders to play with. She decided to use it to hold ideas and inspiration for little pockets and corners around her home that need some extra love and attention. Although they’ve been in their ‘new’ house for five years, there are still a lot of areas that need decorating – they’re not necessarily whole rooms, sometimes it’s just a wall or a corner of a room that needs livening up. It’s kind of like a ‘Pinterest’ that you can hold and touch and add to and use for reference and colour matching along the way!
Suz took photos of each of the areas of her house she wants to focus on over the next few months. Even if she only did one area a month, she has enough ideas and inspiration on her board to keep her going for ten months.
The beauty of the receipt holders over the artists and other display trays is that the wire holders spring forward so that you can remove the contents. This means that she can add ideas when she finds them, and also change them or take them down when an area of her home is finished.
Suz created many of the folders to reflect the colour and design choices that she wanted to use in that area. She took photos of each of the areas exactly as they were at the time which was further designed to inspire her to action – as some of them were pretty messy!
Inside the folders held cuttings from brochures and magazines, colour schemes and embellishments that represented the look that she wants to achieve when she decorates her area. She had a heap of fun recreating her ideas using cute things like Websters buttons, Pink Paislee Cabachons, stickers and Crate Paper Layered Chipboard.
For Suz’s memory jar, she wanted to replace a framed photo that normally sits on a shelf in her lounge room and give it a completely different look. It’s a gorgeous shot of the kids when they were much littler and less complicated, so she reprinted it at a much reduced size to use in her jar.
To help hold everything up she added an inch or two of sand to the bottom of the jar. She created a simple, nostalgic look with a Webster’s Pages tree sticker for the background, the photo a few beautiful gold tipped Prima flowers and a Webster’s Sticker that simply says ‘i love you’.
She finished off her jar with a Tim Holtz charm, 7Gypsies crystals, sweetest Webster’s lace and fabric ribbon and a tag with a quote by Elizabeth Lawrence that reads ‘There is a garden in every childhood, an enchanted place where colours are brighter, the air softer, and the morning more fragrant than ever again.”
