The American Crafts brand is well known for it's colourful collections and cute embellishments.  Stacey had so much fun creating this layout of her son and his doggy.  She loved the colours of the Amy Tangerine Yes Please collection but also popped in a touch of lime green.  The Zazz Glitter Glue was also another great addition to her layout.  Everyone loves a bit of sparkle right?

Jane trimmed a jar, envelope and the word ‘hello’ from the papers and used them as embellishments for her card. Jars are so on trend at the moment and so are the colours in this range.

Jane trimmed two panels from the This & That paper and layered them on the Collector paper which has a great stressed look! Jane then cut a word from the Blue Skies paper and then finished her sentiment on her card using Wish Thickers.

Louise chose to take more of a project life style approach and created 6 postcards to document her recent travels to a Scrapbooking Retreat. Louise loves the idea of creating postcards to showcase her travel photos as it fits perfectly with the travel theme.

Going out to travel is such an exciting time. Coming home with loads of pictures and mementos from your trip can be your ticket to an equally exciting time for your crafting. Iris Babao Uy shares with us two ways to document your travel photos. First, she shares with us a fun layout about her kids having a grand time at Universal Studios, Singapore. She used stickers and cut-out patterned paper from the Simple Stories "Urban Traveller" collection for her page.

Next, she shows us a quick an easy way to document their travel memories using the "Project Life" approach to scrapbooking. After a trip, you will definitely have loads of photos but then you may not have the time to put all of these down on scrapbook pages. To make it easier to get all your photos in an album while the memories are still fresh, you can opt to do it in this style. You just slip in the cards and the photos and add your journalling. Simple, easy, fast, and still beautiful!

Sue decided on a lovely pink theme for her wedding set and has used papers and embellishments from both Pink Paislee and Prima to create her pieces.  

 

 

 

 

 

She started with a beautiful strip of photos of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law that formed the idea for the invitation.  Sue used the decorative scallop strip die from Sizzix to add a pretty feature to the invitaion.  The invite is designed so that the top layer (including the photos) can be removed and kept as a keepsake.  It is simply attached to the invite using a cute miniature peg.  Sue also used the dot textured impressions folder to emboss a layer of vellum on the invite.

Sue created a simple card using a similar style to the invite, for the guests to R.S.V.P to the wedding.  Including an R.S.V.P card to a nice way to encourage your guests to reply in a timely manner.

 

 

Sue used a 6x6 Prima pad to create the place card for the wedding.  The idea being, that you could have a series of place cards that all co-ordinate but are each a little unique.  
To create decorative pieces for the wedding tables, Sue has used Prima flowers sprayed with Color Shine, to embellish pretty candle holders.

Sue decorated a cute little tin using patterned paper and a Prima flower with the idea that you could pop a small chocolate inside and give as favours at the wedding.

 

It is always lovely to send Thank You cards out to your guests after the wedding. A nice touch is to create a photo collage of your wedding pictures and pop it onto a simple card design.  It will be a lovely memento of the occasion.

 

 

 

 

 

Sue continued with her colour scheme and design to create the beautiful wedding layout.  She used the scallop Sizzix strip die to create the lovely border across the page.  Gorgeous Prima flowers and Pink Paislee Cottage Farm ephemera, along with pretty hessian hearts, completed the soft and feminine look.

event scrapping: girls birthdays

 

 

Scrapping kids birthday parties can often be overwhelming, between the number of photos taken and wanting to make a page special, so Suz is glad she’s finally been given a reason to get Phoebe’s 8th birthday pics scrapped. 

Twenty photos are included in this double page (many of them taken by the lovely Nicole Finlayson!).  The grid of eighteen 2” square photos gives an overview of the activities of the day without overwhelming the page, a couple of favourite photos are enlarged and there’s still room for journalling and white space.  American Crafts ‘My Girl’ papers and embellishments were perfectly toned and themed for this vibrant page.

Iris turns to "Project Life" style of scrapping when she wants to document several photos from an event. In this page, she documents one of the many birthday treats her girls got this year. Since they both celebrate their birthdays in December, there is bound to be hundreds of moments that she would like to record. She used the new collection from Webster's Pages "Sweet Notes" to create this fun and colourful page. The heart resin of Webster's Pages adds the perfect accent and finishes off her layout.

A wedding is such a special moment and for Iris, her ideal setting for a wedding would be a romantic garden filled with colour and sweet fragrances. She conveys this through a wedding set she created with a spring bouquet theme. Everything from the invitations, guest album, down to the layout are filled with beautiful soft colours. The wedding favour is a pearl necklace set on a small bottle with a scented fabric inside. We hope you will enjoy the following projects she has created for your inspiration.

Stacey loved everything about the On Trend collection.  She loved the bold colours and prints and especially the gorgeous Chipboard pieces.  She pulled the royal blue and magenta colours out of the papers and splashed about with some misting.  The photo always being her focus, she layered a photo mat for her sweet Master 5 to sit on.

Crate Paper remains to be one of Iris' top favorites. She loves the whimsical theme and the colourful and striking elements of their collections. In this layout, Iris used elements from the Ephemera pack and the Mini-Album pack. She cut-out the lens area of the camera die-cut and slid under a photo of her daughter. A perfect snapshot!

Iris created for us a 2nd layout using the same Maggie Holmes Collection. Again she took elements from the Ephemera Pack and the Mini-Album pack. The small camera patterns were hand-cut from patterned paper and was used as embellishments.

Danielle created these two fun layouts using Crate's Acorn Avenue.  She has made the most of the happy colour palettes and carefree themes with her whimsical random style.

 

DIY Shop is a collection of vintage inspired papers that are so beautifully versatile you can use it for any tye of project - male, female, seasonal etc.  The collection has the usual signature Crate Paper items scrappers and card makers love: wood, numbers, days of the week, months, Crate flowers, doilies and a vintage ephemera pack.  Leanne has chosen to work with some of the 12x12 patterned papers from this range to create four cards.

Drawn to the vintage haberdashery themed accent on the cut out sheet, Leanne made it a feature on this centre step card.  To tie in with the vintage feel of the range Leanne spritzed, scrunched and iron dried her papers to get them to mimic fabric.  She also hand died the crinkle ribbon to give it a distressed look.

 

This card features some of the smaller patterned papers which are perfect for card making.  By using the elements on the cut out sheet Leanne was able to create matching borders to add to the card.

 

This card was really quick to put together thanks to the “Thank You” sentiment featured on one of the cut out panels.  Leanne hand cut some fishtail banners and added some pearls.

 

 

The rustic look of the wood grain inspired Leanne to get out her dies and create this card. To add an additional element of interest to the front of the card front Leanne used the Sizzix Bigz XL Die - Card Fronts, Bracket & Ticket.

Tamara Tripodi created this adorable layout using the DIY Shop papers.  The neutral toning and small floral print work really well together.  Tamara had so much fun creating this layout and you can read her comical account over on her blog.  Thanks for sharing this layout with us Tamara!

 

We have some wonderful inspiration coming all the way from Singapore. Jeanette Lee started scrapbooking since November 2008, with the initial intention of only making Christmas presents for friends. The love for scrapbooking slowly developed and right now, it has become more than just a regular hobby.  This layout was an experiment with the 'blocking' technique. Jeanette assembled each section with layers and embellishments while making them cohesive as an overall layout. To create the title, Jeanette used one of her favourite stamps, stamped it on a tag and used it as the title.

 

 

The 3 photos here were the inspiration behind the title. Being able to eat local food in a foreign country felt like home. She placed white stickers on each photo to ensure that the eyes run vertically down the page. A polaroid frame is meant to place a photo but in this case, Jeanette decided that it could be used to layer elements both behind and on the front of the frame. There are bits of confetti too, if you look closely. Thank you Jeanette for sharing with us your beautiful work! Kaori, a member of the Crate Paper design team, has created these two gorgeous layouts.  Both using almost the same products from the On Trend collection, yet both are completely different.  Thankyou for letting us share your inspirational work Kaori.

 

 

All the way from Germany, Janna Werner from the Crate Paper Design Team has allowed us to share her creative page using a mix of Acorn Ave and On Trend.  Her design is so appealing and it's lovely to see the muted tones of the collections used as well.

 

 

Janna also created this very cute layout featuring the Maggie Holmes collection and some Silhouette die cut elements.  Jana has used both the negative and the positive of some of the images she die cut, it’s a great example of how you can mix different elements on your page.  Jana has also outlined some of the shapes with a black pen, to add more dimension.  The layout also highlights the versatility of the collection as all the patterned, floral and background elements co-ordinate beautifully.

Iris did not use any patterned papers for this layout. Instead of going the usual route of creating a foundation for the page using patterned papers, Iris created a rich textured base with stencils, mediums, and Luminarte Silk Paints. This was for her, the perfect base to show off the fabulous line of embellishments from the new "Fact and Fiction" line.

Here is another example of how one can create a page using mostly embellishments from BasicGrey. Iris used embellishments and only one sheet of paper from the "What's Up" line yet you can see so much detail and texture in this layout.

Hipster is a ‘totally awesome’ line for boys in particular and life in general, with a limited muted colour palette perfect for when the boys get past the cutesy toddler stuff.  Here Suz chose to team it with a black and white photo of her son and recount a story about him in journalling strips in one of the file folders.  The embellishments, including brass paper clips and wood veneer words and shapes, tie in perfectly.

Kelly Noel on the BasicGrey design team brought some fabulous brightness to the Hipster line by combining it with some of the more vibrant colours from the Hey Boy range.  We love how she has used the Candy Buttons to add highlights.

 

 

We thank the master of mixing and matching for this beautiful example of combining the Hipster line with the pretty florals of the Mint Julep range to create this gorgeous page.

 

 

When Pia Lopez starting scrapbooking, one of the very first paper brands she fell in-love with was BasicGrey. It still is one of her favourites today as you can see in this stunning layout she made about her newborn daughter. The "Kissing Booth" line is a much older release from BasicGrey but still remains to be trendy up to this day. Thank you Pia for sharing with us this beautiful layout!

 

 

Kim Jeffress is on the DT for BasicGrey and she is just perfect for them. She loves that their products, papers, and embellishments are so varied. She has two boys so she is not really a flowery scrapper. The geometric patterns and bold colours are just perfect for her gorgeous style.

 

 

This very fun and energetic layout was created by Kim to record his son's first days at Kindergarten. She loves the bright happy oranges and  limes and she thought that the alphabet paper was just perfect for these first day photos.

wedding inspiration: danielle quarmby style

 

We hope you’re enjoying our wedding series.  Sweet and rustic is how Danielle describes her wedding set, a range beautifully suited to a farmhouse, barn, meadow or country vintage style wedding.

Sizzix embossing folders, kraft cardstock and Cosmo Cricket's Sweet Disposition products form the basis for this set.

Danielle also designed the wedding set so that the products used may not be identical, allowing you to give a unique touch to each guest while still coordinating. A different tag may be used for each place card, and a variety of papers added to the Envelope lining, for instance. The slightly mismatched, vintage feel is enhanced by the stamped polaroid camera on the Save the Date card.

With curved corners for a vintage feel, the Save the Date card and envelope are based on kraft cardstock and paper, with touches of patterned paper to connect them. Cosmo Cricket's Sweet Disposition stamps have been used for a cute, casual feel.

 

Thank You cards are tied in with the invitation by the use of the same aqua and white twine, simply tied in a bow. The curved edge of the card was made with Sizzix/Tim Holtz On the Edge Brackets Dies, a shape which is echoed from the Save the Date envelope flap.

 

 

Based on a Cosmo Cricket Sweet Disposition tag, which could vary with each card created, the place card ties in with the rest of the set through the same aqua twine. The wrap around patterned paper also connects the place card with the theme of the invite itself.

 

 

The Sweet Disposition chipboard alphabet makes a gorgeous garland, strung on twine between two jars of greenery to create a unique table number.

 

Danielle's wedding layout has been created with echoes of various parts of the wedding set, including the Sizzix embossing folders, the stamps and the various paper designs. With the variety provided in this single range, a coordinating album could easily be produced with the same whimsical, vintage feel.

 

The woodgrain invitation has a distinctly rustic feel, with a touch of romance from the Sizzix lace embossing folder used to create a border design. Aqua and white twine, as well as the patterned paper wrap-around with a kraft layer, tie the invitation in with the rest of the set.

 

 

This bomboniere could be almost anything, designed as a simple kraft paper bag tied with twine and decorated with a paper flower. Chocolates or other treats would be a sweet addition! The embossed patterned paper heart and aqua twine make a quick but effective decoration around a glass jar. A series of candles in jars of all shapes and sizes, decorated similarly, could be scattered around a venue or clustered for a table feature.

Danielle adored the Glitz Color Me Happy bright and happy range of products. For this layout, she paired paper layers with patterned paper, whatnots and washi tape for a vibrant, warm and happy page about her son and their new puppy.
A touch of doodling, plus a couple of rubber stamps from Glitz Designs Uncharted Waters range, add a casually arty feel. This page was a lot of fun!

Jane just loves to fussy cut! She cut a small whale image from one of the Unchartered Waters 6x6 papers then cut one of the panels from  Bits & Pieces paper, she cut across the tops of the waves using a scalpel then sat the whale image slightly inside the waves so it looks like it’s swimming! Jane added one of the giant rhinestones over her gauze trim which added a great sparkly effect to the card.

With the ‘Love You’ card Jane trimmed one of the Journaling stickers from the sheet leaving the backing piece on, she then used a circle die to cut it and created a frame,  the outer edges of each seahorse was cut using a scalpel then the sticker frame was place around them as shown. The words were trim and a section was placed over one of the giant rhinestones.

Jane created this fabulous vintage English teachers wedding set using simple and effective techniques, she loves all things old and is married to a teacher and her daughter is studying to be one too!  She has used real green apples, old books, doilies and a blackboard technique in such clever ways that just accentuate the theme beautifully! The splash of green dotted paper compliments the green apples and makes the set cohesive.

 

 

Jane used die-cuts hearts from black card as mini chalkboard, she wrote on them using the white Galaxy marker which have a great opaque finish. A smudge of white ink was applied over the top of the words using fingertips but you can use a small sponge if you wish, this gives the look of left-over chalky residue. The Fleur Tile textured folder with vanilla card looks like pressed tin which adds to the vintage theme.

 

 

The invitation is the first taste of the wedding that your guest are going to experience so it’s a good idea to be elaborate and set the theme, Jane went with a pop up card for the invitation but to cut down on time and cost you could leave the inside plain.

 

Use old jars to house a large silk flower or use a small posy of live cream blooms for a fresher feel. Jane stained a sheer fabric curtain with tea, let it dry then ripped it into stripes and used it as ribbon which gave the items a great rustic feel.

 

The name plaques were taped to tops of paddle pop sticks and the other end was cut to a point so they could be inserted into the apples. For a great country feel place them on tables covered with red checked tablecloth.

 

 

Jane used a folded piece of crimson card and added a text page on either side so it would like an opened book. A handy hint that Jane would like to share is to always read the print before using it, and make sure you use a love story and not a horror!!

 

The thank you cards are slightly smaller and less fiddly, the flower vine is sitting upright and no doily was included.

Danielle loved the old fashioned roses and film-style photography in Prima's Hello Pastel paper collection, and based her layout on this soft feel. Touches of green, aqua, teal and yellow add a playful touch, with a slightly rustic feel from the vintage mechanicals. Danielle recommends the washi tape for touches of colour and pattern at random on your projects!

Sue has designed this layout using the lovely Divine collection from Prima.  The Divine collection was designed by Jodie Lee and is a beautiful Shabby Chic range with pretty feminine images.  Sue used the "Chanson" paper in the range to create that lovely quilt like background for her photo.  The gorgeous butterflies on the page are some of Prima's canvas range. If you haven't tried them before, give them a go!  You can alter the colour of the embellishments with ink or mists.  Sue used Georgia Peach and Primrose Colour Shine mists to colour her butterflies.

Stacey loved the colours of the Bo Bunny Mama Razzi colletion.  She used the teal and orange to create some mixed media work on her background.  The cameras are also a cool addition to the collection and she cut out a few and adhered them to her page with foam tape.  She finished off the page by adding some of the gorgeous jewels.

Leanne loved creating some cards with the Prairie Chic collection, in particular, the bright and floral papers in the 6x6 paper pad. Leanne loved the way the floral papers featured many of the colours in the co-ordinating patterned pieces which made selecting the papers to use together so easy.  The collection also has many papers which are pre distressed which work well with Leanne’s card making style.  This collection has a great mix of grunge and elegance!
This first card was a quick and simple card featuring hand cut fishtail banners with a layered butterfly punch on the front of the card. To give the butterfly dimension Leanne added foam tape to the wing sections between the layers. 

 

The Prairie Chic collection is so versatile. For this card Leanne teamed up some of the brighter patterned pieces to create this circular card.

 

Another fun bright and cheery circular card!  This time Leanne used the same Sizzix Thinlits Dies – Arrows, Banners, Chevrons & Clouds set and cut the banner in both cardstock and patterned paper to create the banner embellishment.  The 6x6 paper pad has some lovely gingham papers which match so well with the floral papers.  Leanne also used the pre printed lace border on the floral paper as a feature on the card.  Leanne attached both patterned pieces together before cutting her circle with the EK Circle Cutter

 

This cute free standing tag features some of the softer coloured papers in the collection. The chevron striped and patterned striped papers work well together as the 6x6 paper pads prints are perfectly miniaturised for tags.

Juliana Michaels from the Bo Bunny Design Team used the Prairie Chic collection on this gorgeous layout.  Her layout showcases how well the papers, stickers and flowers from the collection work together. She also used the great new Bo Bunny 8.5 in doilies and has created a great picture tutorial of the technique she used to alter the doilies. You can see the tutorial here.

 

Gabrielle Pollaco also from the Bo Bunny design team has created several stunning layouts she has allowed us to showcase today. 

This first layout was created for the 2013 Winter CHA and we are honoured to share it today!  This one is using the stunning C’est La Vie collection.  The combination of the browns and pinks in the collection are just gorgeous.

 

This layout also by Gabrielle has choose to use the neutrals and greens from the Mama Razzi collection and the little banner under the photo is just too cute. 

 

Gabrielle has also created this layout entitled “Sweet” with the C’est La Vie collection from Bo Bunny.  The layout although from the same range as the previous one has a totally different colour pallet and feel.  Gabrielle has truly shown the versatility of the Bo Bunny C’est La Vie collection on these two layouts.  She has teamed the patterned papers up beautifully with the co-ordinating embellishments and flowers together with lots of the background stamps, including the Distressed Textures stamp, the 'It is Written' stamp set and the 'Flourishes and Such stamp set.

scrapbooking events: boys birthdays

Birthdays are another one of those events where you might take so many photos it’s too overwhelming to edit them down, or if you share your layouts online it might not be appropriate to include other little people’s faces.  They’re one of the most fun events to document though, especially watching your little men grow up as you look back on the years.

Here’s a look at how Louise and Stacey dealt with their son’s birthdays.

 

Louise has created this muted birthday layout using the Basic Grey Bow Ties and Knee Highs range to show that you don't have to go bright to make a page fun. She hand drew and cut out the balloons, using some crochet thread as a fun element to tie the elements together.

For this colourful layout Louise again used the Knee Highs and Bow Ties range from Basic Grey. By using foam squares to raise the adhesive letters off the page, she's added dimension and highlighted the heading to make it really pop off the page.

What better way to scrap the "Birthday Boy" than with Crate Paper's Party Day collection.  This collection has loads of cute embellishments which worked a treat with Stacey's 1st birthday photos of her little boy.
