Start with any sized square piece of cardstock. I’ve used the measurements of 8”x8”.
1. Using a pencil and ruler, draw a line from corner to corner creating an ‘x’ on your page.
2. Fold one corner to the centre and score with a bone folder (score for each fold as we go)
3. Fold the same ‘corner’ again to meet the centre line
4. Unfold and you will see 3 horitzonal lines. Repeat steps 2-4 for each corner
5. When you have completed the folds for each corner you will notice a grid of squares. We need to make 2 cuts with scissors on opposite corners. Not including the point, or corner, count 2 squares high and 2 squares wide (as I have marked with red pen) Cut along these lines.
6. Fold the opposing corners that have not been cut to the centre of the ‘x’. Fold the creased sides up (I don’t have a separate picture of this step, but you will see in the next photo the sides are folded up)
7. Bring the other 2 side pieces together forming the box structure
8. Fold the remaining flaps over the sides and push into place. Each point should meet at the ‘x’ on the base of the box.
9. Your origami box is now complete.
If this is your box base, construct another box starting with a square measuring 8 ¼” x 8 ¼” and that will be your lid. If this is your box lid, construct another box starting with a square measuring 7 ¾” x 7 ¾” and it will become your box base.
Happy Creating!!
