Designing with…. a new reader’s challenge!

 

 

We’re starting a new readers challenge here on the Aussie blog and we’d love you ALL to join in!!  Each week we’re focusing on trends from CHa and a different product, or product type, and we’ll spend the week sharing great examples of the use of that product.  By the end of the week we’re hoping you’re inspired enough to create your own layouts to send into us, which we’ll feature on in a post each Monday.

This week we’re looking at one of the hottest trends from CHA Summer – delicious Chalkboard, as well as stickers in general – alphas, elements, icons – all our old favourites.  You might not be able to use these exact ranges on your projects because they’re fresh off the CHA shelf, but of course we want to see our own suppliers used in your projects.

So all you need to do to win a fabulous prize pack of chalkboard and sticker products is to send us an image of a layout, card, project life page or even a beyond-the-page project that showcases an innovative use of chalkboard or other stickers by next Sunday 25th August.  Each week we’ll choose our favourite to receive a prizepack.   Email us at [email protected] with your photos.

The Hopscotch range from Fancy Pants is a bright, fun filled range that has a definite spring/summer feel about it.  Leanne Whitby enjoyed using the 6x6 paper pad, buttons and sticker sheet from the range to create these three cards which all have their own unique style.

 

Leanne chose papers from the 6x6 paper pad to give this card soft spring theme.  She then added some banner stickers, buttons and punches.

 

To create this “sewing” themed card Leanne decided to spritz, scrunch and iron dry her paper to give it a textured, fabric like look for the background and accents on her card.  She then added a cute tag with some faux stitching and pinking sheared edging. 

 

Spring is synonymous with birds chirping and flowers blooming. Leanne selected two gorgeous Poppy Stamps dies together with the brighter Hopscotch papers from the 6x6 pad to create this card.

 

Kim the 12x12 patterned papers from the Hopscotch collection for this page about her daughter. Kim used the “cool” die-cut as a mist template, as well as layering it to create the page title. Her finished layout really highlights how mist can alter die-cuts.  For her journaling Kim made great made use of the 12x12 page of Sticker Fundamentals. The printed words and array of mini alphas worked well together to create colourful journaling collage.  Kim’s gorgeous creations can be found over on her blog.

 

These stunning cards were created by Piradee from the Fancy Pants Design Team.  Here is what Piradee said about her cards and the paper range -  “I absolutely adore the sweet colours along with the pop of pink and the vintage designs in this collection—check out that floral pattern paper and you’ve got to see the newsprint one too. Looking for calendar ideas for next year?  We just found this fabulous project by Design Team member Jess Mutty, along with a complete tutorial for making it here on the Fancy Pants blog.  She has used the Good Life patterned paper range with its striking bright colour palette.

Iris wanted to showcase the beauty of the rub-ons so she started with a white card stock and misted it with bright tones of yellow and pink. She then placed a stencil on top of the paper and smeared on a thick coat of gesso and glass bead gels. The rub-ons were then added to the paper, overlapping on the areas with gesso and glass bead gels. You can actually see the texture underneath some areas of the rub-ons.
Fancy Pants chipboard pieces, flocked hearts, and buttons easily add dimension and whimsy to the design of the layout.

The Country Boutique collection from Fancy Pants has an elegant colour palette which makes it perfect for scrapping your wedding photos.  Sue has started an 8 1/2 x 11 inch scrapbook for her wedding photos and every now and again, she adds another page or two.  Sue has used the die-cuts in the collection to embellish her page and kept the design fairly simple but elegant.  Touches of bling and sequins and beads added a little glamour to the page.

 

Sue loved the vintage woodgrain patterned papers in the Country Boutique collection and for this layout, she used one for her background.  Sue has added in a little silver glitter paper from American Crafts to add a little 'pop' to her page.  To create the cute heart banner, Sue cut out the heart images from the Country Boutique paper and stitched them to the page.  Sue then added sequins and beads to create a little glamour.

We have some amazing layouts from Jess Mutty. Jess is a stay at home mom living near Boston with her husband, and kids Owen (2.5) and Lily (7 weeks).  For this first layout, Jess combined papers from Country Boutique and Time for Spring for this scraplift of Pocket Chick Piradee Talvanna.  Her page is a more masculine take.  She stitched each banner, added an accordion flower, and used bits and pieces of chipboard from other lines. 

 

Sweet Face - The die-cut banners from this line were just begging to be hung against the trendy wood patterned paper.  Jess cut the Polaroid frames with the Silhouette and embellished the pennants with coordinating neutral embellishments.  Her favourite detail is the pair of butterflies and their stitched flight trails at the bottom.

 

This gorgeous mini album was created by Kim Watson using the Off to School collection.  Kim layered some of the goodies from the ‘Design Elements’ pack and ‘Chipboard Element’ sheet to embellish the front cover.  We love how Kim included photos of her children and also some of their drawings.  What a sweet album.  Thanks Kim for the wonderful inspiration.

Fancy Pants are also bringing out Alphabet and cute Word stencils with this release.  These fun and versatile stencils are made of heavy weight cardstock .. just like the old stencil templates.  There’s also printed Journaling Cards and Calendar cards, great for keeping track of what happened and when, in a very stylish way.

Sue loves the softness of the Winterland Collection from Fancy Pants.  Living in Queensland, Sue has never even seen snow before so she doesn't often have the opportunity to use wintery papers.  However last year she and her family were lucky enough to be in Brisbane while the winter festival was happening.  Sue has created layers of the soft patterns to compliment the somewhat brighter photos, which helps them 'pop' off the page.  Sue also created a little envelope at the top of the layout so that she can hide away her journaling inside.  A few little details like stitching, buttons and sequins finish off the page.

 

Janine found the colours of the Summer Soul range by Fancy Pants so happy and appealing. They were perfect for this photo of her daughter in hot pink! She loved all the swirling elements in the designs, especially the transparency sheet, which became the main element she designed her page around.

Finally, these gorgeous LO's by Jing-Jing Nickel are a wonderful example of how these Fancy Pants papers can be used so effectively for those Summer and holiday photographs. Danielle was instantly drawn to the bright, fun 'Off to School' range from Fancy Pants and took the opportunity to scrap the first day of school this year. A touch of gesso and string add a more casual feel to the graphic designs, and the layered element stickers, chipboard pieces and trims add a vibrant cheerfulness.

 

 

 

In this layout, Iris Uy uses the gorgeous "Summer's End" papers with the glitter cuts for a layout that is filled with cozy comfort colors and glitzy texture.

 

 

 

Fancy Pants Designer Iris Uy makes it a habit to make mini-albums for annual holidays and events in advance. Having too many photos taken in an event coupled with the pressure to have it scrapped soon equals no pictures scrapped at all. So her solution is mini albums made in advance for specific events like Halloween. This way, as soon as the pictures are taken and developed, all she has to do is crop the photos and adhere to her mini album.

 

Yuka Hino, another designer for Fancy Pants, created this bewitching layout of her daughter using the Oct.31 collection. She created a ruffled trim paper for the edge, misted the background paper with purple and black colors then overlaid a flocked web transparency to document this fun and beautiful Halloween moment.

 

Fancy Pants Designer Pamela Young, actually used FP's ribbon packaging to draw the shape for the card. She then added some rub-ons to the background, layered a filter and a die-cut, and topped of the layers with a ribbon and a chipboard embellishment. Finally she added stitching around the edges of the card. Simple details, beautiful effect!

 

For this funky layout, Lisa Andrews has used the calendar patterned paper from Fancy Pants' Off To School range as her background and built up from there.
