Jill has created a collage out of the Jenni Bowlin Studio papers to create a 12" x 12" canvas.  By looking closely at your papers, there are always possibilities to make something a little out of the box.

There is no doubt that Jenni Bowlin brings out  such cool vintage embellishments and Leeann loved playing with all the sticker elements. layering them and turning a couple into buttons by punching holes. One of Leeann's favourite embellishments from Jenni Bowlin is the cardstock feather. So on trend and totally fun! This page was created on a piece of Core'dinations cardstock which is from a collection of embossed cardstock. Leeann used the paint daubers and swipe it around the cardstock edges and lighter all over the background. she also used the paint daubers on a mask and then stamped the design on the cardstock.

Jenni Bowlin's Wren collection was just irresistible to Danielle, always a fan of vintage book paper and similar designs! Combined with the new wired feathers and paint daubers. The black paint dauber has been used around the edges of the page for an inky look. Danielle also adores the skinny grey alphabet stickers and took advantage of the compact size to create a long title for her page, one of her favourite things to do!

Jane instantly fell in love when she saw these mini Vintage deck cards, all the images are so adorable and she’s a sucker for silhouettes!! Jane even cut one of the smaller images from the packaging and layer it on one of the stamp perforated paper pieces, the pearl flower centres were added to the doily flowers and of course Jane loves them too as they look like they have been quilled, just gorgeous!

Lou Nelson has backed cardstock with a generic dress pattern tissue for this layout, and then used a heap of the new Jenni Bowlin products to turn out this stunning layout.  She loves the new colours in the Daubers and ink pads and being able to alter the Alphas to work perfectly with her colour scheme.

Chris used the Home Sweet Home paper in the Be Our Guest range to decorate the fabulous chalkboard easels by Jenni Bowlin.  This range of papers has given the chalkboard a real country kitchen feel and Chris thinks it will be perfect to keep in her kitchen for keep track of grocery items that are running low.  Chris used 2 pieces of the Home Sweet Home paper so that she could cut out some smaller pieces of the house and glue them down with 3D tape to give the house some depth.  She covered the chipboard flags in pattern paper and used them as a sun-ray effect behind the house image.

Chris created a square of 9 1" circles for the background of this card and then layered the gorgeous Jenni Bowlin flower and butterfly embellishments onto the circles.

Janine used a mix of old and new Jenni Bowlin products to create this LO. The beauty of the Jenni Bowlin products is that many of them can mix and match with previous releases, for a wonderful selection with a slight eclectic touch to the layout.  By focusing on the reds and black in this LO, Janine has created a dynamic boy page predominantly from papers.

 

 

The Vintage Black Vine paper from Jenni Bowlin's Vintage Red Series has long been a favourite of Sue's. Sue decided to design her page around that vine image. Although it was a little work cutting it out, Sue thinks it was worth it. She has teamed the black vine with the soft pink and red tones from the Be Our Guest Collection. Although the papers are often used to scrap older photos, Sue shows that they are beautiful with modern photos too.

Sue picked up on the hint of blue in the collection and decided to embellish with the beautiful layered stickers from the Crate Paper Random Collection. Combined with beautiful vintage buttons from JBS and buttons from Crate Paper, the end result is a pretty page.

It was love at first sight when Louise Williams discovered the Jenni Bowlin Hodge Podge album. With a mix of elements including a transparency, frame, seed packet and bingo card, she created this mini album of favourite quotes. By mixing in papers from the Jenni Bowlin Haven range, the album has a modern vintage look with quirky feel.

 

 

 

Sue has been intrigued by the Jenni Bowlin Hodge Podge books for a while now and she decided this was a perfect opportunity to create a mini album of some 'everyday' pics of her children. The books come with six pre-punched pages made from various materials such as heavy cardstock, transparency, book board etc. They provide the perfect base for your photos and other odds and ends to create a fun and interesting album.

The pages are then held together by two brass rings and of course you can add your own pages too.

 

This adorable layout was designed by the talented Lisa Dickinson. What a fabulous idea to use the Jenni Bowlin clock design to represent the growing up of a child. We can all relate to wanting time to slow down a little.

 

We love the simple design of this layout using the Jenni Bowlin Haven collection. And what sweet photos. Thanks Lisa for allowing us to share your work.

 

 

It's the little details that Celeste Smith has used in this clean and simple layout that attracted Louise to it. The Jenni Bowlin kit that was used all co-ordinates beautifully, but it's the touches of stitching and the strips of paper that add a punch of colour that bring it to life.

 

This cute layout from Dina Wakley is another layout using Jenni Bowlin products in a fun, whimsical way. The random stamping and staggered line of photos along with the hand journalling on a punch of orange, all come together to make a layout that's simply "Oh Fun".

 

Louise spotted this amazing canvas by Leah Crowe in an online gallery and immediately recognised the Jenni Bowlin cherries. She loves the layering of collaged elements and the little birdcage adds a touch of whimsy to this lovely piece.

We were wondering… would you like the chance to be on the Jenni Bowlin Guest Design Team?

If so, read on!

This week we bring you a very special, bumper edition of our weekend inspiration – and it comes with a really exciting invitation.  Jenni Bowlin would love to have you on her blog as a Guest Design Team member!

What does this mean?

This means, that over the next few weeks, if you send us your most amazing, most fabulous creations using your favourite Jenni Bowlin papers and embellishments, we will feature them all in a post on our blog, and Jenni Bowlin will choose a winning artist.  The winner will receive a prize pack from of a whole range of their newest products, which you will then use in projects to feature on the Jenni Bowlin blog as a Guest Design Team Member!

Check out the fine print for details below and, if you need Jenni Bowlin product for this challenge, check out your local scrapbooking store.  New CHA lines have just arrived in the warehouse and will be appearing in stores soon.

The fine print:

1. You will need to include 90% Jenni Bowlin product in your layout
2. 100% of products in your project must be brands that Aussie Scrap Source represent.  See here for a list of all of our suppliers.
3. Projects must be emailed to [email protected] by midnight, Sunday 3rd July (we have extended the deadline!)   Images need to be clear, bright and resized for the web (around 600-800 pix at 72 dpi).  Feel free to include close ups of any details you wish to highlight.
4. You are welcome to submit more than one project if you wish.
5. Projects can be layouts, cards or altered items.
6. The winner will be judged by Jenni Bowlin,  the prize pack and appearance date on the Jenni Bowlin Studios blog will be at their discretion.

Iris loved the texture and the elements found in the Hodge Podge Book set. However, she did not fancy making a book with it, instead she took the book apart, cut, die-cut, painted etc. the pages and turned it into this vintage layout about her and her husband reaching for their dreams.

 

 

The bright and happy pattern to this collection by Jenni Bowlin "Be Our Guest" is just gorgeous, and perfect for any event. There are some pretty embellishments such as the Rhinestone Bows in cream and the Chipboard Banner Pieces with some added Prima flowers.

 

Suz loves the versatility and ‘neutrality’ of many of the Jenni Bowlin ranges, and how they can be interchangeable and used together.  In the spirit of this she created a ‘patchwork’ background of lots of different designs, cutting them into 3” squares and distressing the edges before adhering them all to cardstock.  The addition of a cluster of Jenni Bowlin embellishments from calendar cards to buttons (and a smidge of glitter) create a pretty foundation for her photos.

Kathie decided to use Jenni Bowlin’s new Family Tree line to make a page that deals with a decision she recently had to make regarding the balance in her life between her work and her role as a mum. She’s teamed the new product with some of Jenni’s older Apothecary Stickers and added a touch of some bright yellow Hambly overlays.

Kathie has confined herself to mainly the cooler shades of the collection – the yellows and greens, with pops of red for impact. The vellum butterflies are beautiful with their pearl centres, and make the perfect finishing touch.

 

 

The Family Tree papers are typically vintage, as we’ve come to expect from Jennifer Bowlin. But have a look at this next layout, by Wilna Furstenberg in Canada. Wilna has stayed beautifully vintage, with the addition of old text and replicating doilie pattern rubons. But, oh, look at the drama she’s injected by the addition of that glorious peacock feather! Stunning!

 

 

 

These two pages above are thanks to Michelle Lanning, in California. We love that she’s obtained two distinctly different styles of page, simply by the way she’s used the Family Tree range. In her layout, Wonderful, she’s adopted an eclectic style and cut circles from the various coordinating pattern papers, which she’s applied to her page along with a doilie and some tissue paper paper. The Jenni Bowlin butterflies and buttons work perfectly to finish off this page.

Louise thought it would be a great idea to create a layout and card combination to document the annual Christmas card photo shoot. With the card she has actually created a card that can fit not only extra 'proof' size' photos for the recipient [on the right hand side], but also a CD inside the front cover [on the left hand side].

The Jenni Bowlin range of papers tags, rubons and embellishments lend themselves beautifully to creating Christmas papercraft projects and gifts, with a fabulous and subtle vintage feel!

Caz loved playing with the Core'dinations Cardstock from Jenni Bowlin. She tore one piece to expose the coloured core and sanded the pattern on another piece to let the inner colours show through. A cluster of art flowers and a length of ribbon finish the layout off. Such a fun and easy way to create an eye-catching textured layout.

 

Iris loves the classic vintage look of Jenni Bowlin products. She created a stunning textured and colorful base for the rub-on butterfly and then added paint and mists to the cardstock to allow the butterfly to be more visible against the kraft cardstock. The vintage pins added the perfect finishing touch.

 

Nic was so very excited when Jenni Bowlin released her Coredinations range of cardstock as it combines the tactile appeal of product that she loves with subtle colours and vintage-inspired patterns. In addition to that, it has been released in Nic's favourite colours!

Nic rubbed back the base cardstock to reveal the paler centre and create softness. She built her layout on top of this by adding sanded back cardstock pieces from the range plus papers and letters from Jenni Bowlin Studios.

 

 

Danielle really adored the big yellow butterfly rub on, so she decided to make a card out of it. Danielle applied the rub on to a folded piece of transparency and then cut around it for a butterfly shaped card. She made sure to leave the top of the wings on the fold, so she did not cut the card apart. She then added a piece of the Play Date 12x12" die cut paper edge on the inside of the card. Two butterfly stickers were layered together to add dimension.

 

 

Chelsea from Japan created this beautiful layout using Jenni Bowlin's Core'dinations cardstock for her background. The lightly sanded card reminds us so much of snow, just like in her sweet little picture. Thanks for letting us share with our readers Chelsea.

 

Instead of sanding the cardstock, Leslie Ashe from texas sprayed it with paint to create a background that ties in with her other papers. As you can see the painting brings out the embossed surface of the cardstock beautifully. Thanks for sharing with us Leslie.

 

 

Thanks so much to Latarnia from Poland for letting us share this gorgeous layout with you. By sanding off some of the brown layer of the Core'dinations cardstock, the red shows through tying in beautifully with the rich pinks and reds of the flowers and title.

The Jenni Bowlin Die Cut papers are a favourite of Sue Tonga's and she uses them often with other scrapbooking ranges. Here, Sue has primarily used the Homespun range. It has a lovely colour palette of red, pink and green. Instead of leaving the die-cut paper with a green border, Sue cut around the inner pink section and adhered it to the cream coloured die-cut label paper. This added a softer feel to the layout. One of the papers in the Homespun range (Quilted Floral) is perfect for cutting out.

The resulting flowers and leaves were used to create the frame for the photo strip and also to provide the foliage for the Chipboard bird to nest in. The papers were accented with a Hambly lace overlay, a chipboard swirl from the Crate Paper Pink Plum collection, and flowers sprayed with Viva Pink Glimmer Mist. Sue loves lots of elements and couldn't resist adding in a bingo card and the Jenni Bowlin Banner Stickers to add the wording for the layout. Sue also finished off the layout with a little sewing.

Janine loved these adorable mini baby boy bingo cards by Jenni Bowlin. Not only did they offer the perfect way to embellish her page but they also added the benefit of a subtle sub title as well. Whether you use just one card on a page or multiple cards together, they are a fabulous accent.

 

Toni Kelly created this adorable little boy page which showcases how beautifully the Jenni Bowlin bingo cards slip effortlessly into a collage accent. The words on the top of the cards are perfect for adding another piece of subtle journaling to the page.

 

The papers from the Homespun range are perfect to showcase the beautiful photos in this sweet layout by Amber Ulmer. The simplicity in design is delightful. Thanks Amber for allowing us to share your page.

 

This is such a beautiful page by Amber Ulmer. The photos are precious and are showcased by the simplicity of the Jenni Bowlin papers and embellishments. Don't you love Amber's handmade flowers where were created by rolling strips of the patterned papers and accented with the Jenni Bowlin buttons.

 

A gorgeous layout by Anabelle O'Malley using the Homespun range. The layers of scalloped frills on the page create a lovely soft effect which compliments the large banner across the top. I love Anabelle's use of the lettering stickers for her title, mixing things up and sewing across them all. What fun!

 

 

Anabelle is also the talented creator of this stunning layout using the Homespun range. Birthday photos are sometimes difficult to scrap but Anabelle has done a wonderful job here, capturing a joyous occasion with her fun use papers and embellishments. I love the journaling cards slotted in behind the photo and the banner is simply perfect! Thanks so much Anabelle for allowing us to share your layouts.

 

Finally, how adorably sweet is this card by Danielle Flanders, using the Jenni Bowlin Bingo cards. I love the way she has cut away the numbers from the card and replaced it with the word baby. Such a fabulous way to use these cards.

trends of 2010: homespun

We’re starting a new series from today. We have asked each member of our design team to identify a current scrapbooking trend and create and find some fabulous examples illustrating their trend.  Kathie Link kicks us off with the ‘homespun’ look.

 

An article in The Advertiser newspaper recently reported that young women are flocking to homespun crafts like sewing, cooking, knitting, gardening and even raising chooks in the family back yard. There is a trend towards the hand-made, towards home-grown, towards repurposing the old.

Kathie’s noticed this homespun trend in the scrapbooking industry too. Several manufacturers have lines that reflect the focus towards home grown, farm fresh, handmade, thrift shopping and wholesome cooking. Browsing through the galleries, it would seem that scrappers are welcoming the theme with open arms.

Soft floral papers and fabrics are being pleated and ruffled onto layouts, old coupons peek out from behind vintage toned photographs, images from old sewing pattern envelopes are being paired with machine stitching, pennant banners drift across the page, and pretty checks and ginghams abound.

In this first layout, Kathie’s used Jenni Bowlin’s Homespun range. The warm vivid colours of line really do say “homespun” in and of themselves. Then, to accentuate the homespun feel even further, Kathie’s added old coupons and newsprint, chipboard buttons (reminiscent of old bottle-tops), fresh gingham, ruffled fabric trim, a little pennant banner and loads of machine stitching.

 

 

 

 

In the next layout Kathie’s adopted an entirely different colour palette but still gave it a homespun feel.

October Afternoon’s Thrift Shop line contains imagery of pretty vintage florals, lace doilies, and old sewing patterns. Kathie’s combined the October Afternoon papers and accent stickers with a Hambly dress-form rub-on, some floral fabric from her grandma’s stash and Websters Pages ball trim to further the fashion theme of the page. A flower shaped from a sewing pattern graces a yellow lace doily for a pretty vintage feel.

 

 

 

There are several Australian scrapbookers who have a natural homespun feel to their work. Mardi Winen is one. Here we share her layout "Maybe", which features her adorable grandaughter. We love how Mardi's teamed pretty vintage florals with sewing patterns, old book print, ledger paper and crochet trim. Thanks for sharing Mardi.

 

 

Jodie Butler is another scrapbooker who always seems to add little pieces of homespun goodness to her pages. Her pages always incorporate fabric and crochet trim, adding texture and making you want to reach out and touch the page. We love how she's curled and distressed the edges of the layout, allowing a warm red background to peek through in places, adding to the warmth of the page.

Janine loves bold patterned papers and the large roses and daisies on the Front Porch range was the perfect inspiration for this layout. Janine has handcut the flowers and then used them to frame the picture while using the smaller prints from the range to offer interest to the design.

 

As soon as Caz saw the delicate floral print on these Jenni Bowlin Studios Town Square papers she was reminded of a little outfit that her Mum had made her when she was just walking. She dug out these photos and had a little trip down memory lane. Her Mum is writing the blurb for the back of the layout. about where she purchased the fabric and how it was one of the few outfits that Caz had as money was tight when they arrived on the ship from England.

 

We need to say a huge thankyou to Michelle from Iowa for these 3 gorgeous layouts using Jenni Bowlin Studio’s products. Check out the little details, from the tiny flower trail the butterfly is leaving to the pleated paper fan around the button. We just loved everything about them.

 

We just love the way Melissa Ferguson has layered the pattern papers from the Front Porch range. As you can see the colours all work together so well including the little bit of black Melissa has added here and there. Thanks so much Melissa for sharing your lovely work with us!

 

Here is what Jill Montag said about working with the Farmers Wife collection: "I’m originally from New York City, and though I am an Upstate Girl now, I’m still far from a Rural Girl. So I was kind of worried that I wouldn’t fall in love with The Farmer’s Wife collection when I first heard the name. Of course I was WRONG! You too will be surprised at how versatile these products are.

I quickly realized they were perfect for scrapbooking my feelings about the recent sale of our house and our upcoming move.
