countdown to christmas: scenic route

One of Mel's favourite combinations is Scenic Route with Kraft cardstock, so when the Christmas layout challenge was announced it was a very easy choice which product to choose for it.

The Garland Grove range is full of traditional Christmas colours with tiny splashes of pinks, creams anda sweet lime green thrown in too, which make a lovely, fresh layout or project when combined. Adding a mixture of large and small photos gives an interesting feel to this double page spread and we loved how Mel punched out the circles using different papers from the range, distressed the edges and then machine stitched them down underneath the pics.  Mel scattered silver bling here and there to complete the page.

Using the black patterned paper as her background and trimmed strips from the Scrap Strip 1 to give a boost Jaimie has made this LO pop. The chipboard pieces and stickers make for cute embellishments and give a lead into Jaimie journaling about her unwilling but cute test shot model.

Caz loves that Scenic Route makes their papers double sided so you can make colourful co-ordinating layouts with only half the amount of paper you would usually buy. Here she has used the new Garden Grove range to document trying to catch her son in full flight on the trampoline as the sun set behind him on his 8th birthday. She punched holes in the die-cut arrow to add a bit of interest and added some dymo labelling.

There's something fun and happy about the new Garden Grove line of patterned papers and embellishments! For this layout, Mel wanted to emulate that fun/happy feel and decided to add small strips in the red and green tones of the range to her page. The flower was hand cut with scissors and then some distressing was added around the edges before adhering onto the page. The flower stalk is a sticker from the Lucky Stars Cardstock Stickers sheet.

To create the journaling, Mel drew lines using a pencil and ruler and stamped on the text with her favourite Hero Arts alphabet stamps (basic lowercase).

Mel is a big kraft fan and was thrilled to see that Scenic Route introduced three different kraft cardstocks to their new line, Garden Grove. For this layout, Mel used the Kraft dotted border for her background and added some Garden Grove patterned papers (Hope Street & Flower Street) behind the photograph. The embellishments were kept simple and dimension was included with the placement of a chipboard flower (Garden Grove, Time Flies) with some added bling on top (Jenni Bowlin Pearl Flowers, Maraschino).

This layout using the Grafton range of papers caught our eye immediately, not only because of the stunning colours in the photos but because it is just such a fun page to look at.

The Liberty range of papers may strike some people as being very American/Star and Stripes the first time they see it but we love it because as well as being our Aussie flags colours too, it works so well on boy pages. Particularly super hero and space pages as Ginger has demonstrated here.

    

Ginger has used the Liberty papers again on this layout of her sweet little boy, but by including some yellow into the red, white and blue mix it looks like a completely different range of paper.

We love the way that Ginger prints out her journaling strips with a coloured background to match each of her layouts. Thanks again Ginger for sharing with us.

Have you seen the beautiful colors and designs in the new Garden Grove line from Scenic Route??? So bright and happy. Elizabeth and Lisa from Treasury of Memories in the US have rocked this line with their layouts, cards, and mini-book highlighting their summer fun.

These super cute and super simple cards would definitely put a smile on anyones face. SRP have created a gorgeous and versatile range in the Garden Grove collection. Here the girls have added the papers to simple Kraft cardstock along with stickers to give a theme to the cards. Lovely

 

Spring has Sprung with this Garden Grove LO. Kept very simple to retain focus on the photos and journalling. This very sweet page is will be a treasured memory for years to come.

Sheree Forcier shared this beautiful layout with us showcasing the lovely, soft tones of the Sonoma range by Scenic Route. The very sweet photos of Sheree's daughter are perfect with the papers and we loved the special touches on the page, like the hand stitching and clever use of word strips to help create the title.

A big thank you again to Sheree Forcier for sharing this second layout with us for the Scenic Route post. To create this page, Sheree has used the bright, fun range of papers from the Appleton range, which are perfect for boy themed or school layouts. The large arrow looks very cool with the zig-zag hand stitching down the middle and the strip journaling fits so nicely with the 'learning to write' theme.

Just one of the many things that Scenic Route Paper is so good at is boy themed papers and accessories - though there are plenty of feminine ranges, they really shine at boys as well, and that's really reflected in most of the layouts in this weekend inspiration.

Having said that, Surprise! their new birthday range swings both ways pretty successfully - the bright colours work just perfectly with both girls and boys birthday party photos.  Suz has created this fun layout of the obligatory candle blowing-out scene at her son Alex's seventh birthday party and had plenty of fun cutting out seven candles, giving them a bit of dimension and even glittering them up with the fun new Pink Paislee Pixee Stix glitters.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Caz couldn't go past these Metropolis papers by Scenic Route when scrapping this gorgeous photo she took of her son 2 years ago. The orange and blues matched his t-shirt and over shirt perfectly.  Caz decided to create her own card-stock letters for the title to match colours in the paper. She changed the letters in the title to different colours, added a black square around each of them and then cut them out individually.

In case you were wondering about the chunks cut out of the background paper - when Caz came to chose a paper to matt the whole page on she realised that she had cut the circle accents from the other side of the one that she liked the best. One of the circles happened to be right on the edge and would be visible. So she used it anyway and cut a few more semi circles out of the layout so it looked like she did it on purpose.

 

 

 

Starting with a base of Kraft and a Hambly clear overlay grid, Nicole created this gorgeous layout depicting her son's puppet creation using paper and embellishments from Scenic Route's Laurel range. She added chipboard accents and arrow die cuts to create the feeling of the energy that our little boys all have inside! She finished it all off using stamps from Pink Paislee.

 

 

Sometimes all a layout needs is a title to tell the story. Mel has used her all time favourite alphabet letters to create the title (Scenic Route Black Berkely) for this page and a mix of several Providence products - patterned papers, buttons and Friends stickers.

 

 

Not exactly Christmas colours, but a Christmas layout, all the same! Nic Howard has used the bold colours of Scenic Route Grafton to create this layout showing her family Christmas card photo from last year. Layers of Grafton papers, a sheet of Scenic Route Kraft cardstock with Scenic Route alpha stickers and a Christmas rub-on from one of their rub-on packs and this layout is complete.

 

 

 

 

  

We love the new Scenic Route Sonoma range and these layouts by Vicki Boutin shows it off wonderfully!  These layouts have heaps of texture with embellishments created from the patterned paper in the range and a fabulous border below the photos. Vicki has finished the layouts using the Sonoma buttons and a few of the Scenic Route clear stamps. Thanks for sharing, Vicki!

 

The inspiration just goes on and on this weekend with Scenic Route Papers so easy and beautiful to use.  Here are two more stunning examples of what you can do with the Sonoma range by Kathie Link.  We love her handcut flowers as well and quirky paper-pieced vases in this second layout, and she shows just how versatile this range is by giving it a completely different distressed look in 'At My Desk'.  Thanks Kathie for sharing your talent!

 

 

We thank Alison Shearer for these two layouts.  Usually known for pages on her beautiful daughter, here she has tried her hand at the boyish Grafton range of papers with a boy toddler, and is no less skilled at them!  We love the slightly weathered look she has given the papers, and the greens and turquoises truly jump from the neutral brown and kraft backgrounds.  She's also cleverly injected just enough orange to give the pages the energy of a toddler!  Thanks Alison for letting us share these layouts.

Sheree has also used the Grafton range for both of these pages, so bright and funky. We noticed the little touches that were added on these pages - mounting patterned paper to chipboard brackets, hand cut star, hand stitching combined with fun photos and clever titles.

The ultra prettiness and lightness of Scenic Route's Lynden just screamed 'Phoebe' to Suz as she created this layout celebrating her daughter's 5th birthday and all the things that a girly 5yo is into.  New Heidi Swapp Rounded Florals, Queen & Co Felt and bits of bling from both Love You More and Heidi Swapp were the perfect embellishments, finished off by a badge from one of her daughters birthday cards.

 

 

Also showing that the Lynden range doesn't have to be all about Easter, Chris has created this lovely layout about her daughters first time on an aeroplane. Chris said she was so excited when she saw the gorgeous colours of the papers - right up her alley! The arrows were also the perfect way to draw attention to the photos on the page and helped to tell the story.

 

The Salem range of patterned papers are bright, funky and perfect for a wide range of layouts. For this page Mel has used Flint Street, Scrap Strip, Peabody Street and the Webb Street papers combined with the Halloween chipboard.

 

Another fun layout by Mel using the Salem range of patterned papers. The circles (for the car wheels) have been hand cut and adhered above some hand stitched lines....brrm!!

Christiane Muller, though from Germany is fast becoming a favourite designer of ours here at Aussie Scrap Source.  These two layouts are created from the gorgeous Scenic Route Grafton range of patterned papers.  We love so much how her pages remain wonderfully personal and yet also showcase the patterns and colours of the papers so beautifully.

 

Sheree Forcier shares with us her Batboy layout which is super cool! Sheree has handcut circles and stars from the Scenic Route Salem range of patterned papers and added a little splash of hand stitching to finish off the layout perfectly.

    

 

A big thankyou to Sheree Forcier once again for sharing this cute little layout - aren't those squashed face super sweet!! We loved the photos and Salem patterned papers on the black background, it gives such a striking appearance.

 

 

The lovely Nicole Eshelman who designs for the Scenic Route gallery has allowed us to show her gorgeous layouts using the Lynden and Grafton ranges. This is what Nicole had to say about the two new lines.

The vibrant colors of the Lynden range are so much fun to use for both girl and boy layouts alike. It's so versatile and while it is perfect for Spring/Easter layouts, the possibilities are endless!  The new Grafton line is yummy! The rich colors bring so much life to your layouts! The colors are perfect for all of those beach/vacation photos just waiting to be scrapped.

meet the dt: mel loves scenic route paper

 

I've always been a big fan of Scenic Route products. In the early days it was mainly a fascination with their double sided patterned papers - so thick, luscious, bold and rich in colour. Now I seem to have an addiction for the black and red Berkeley chipboard alphas and all of the seriously delicious chipboard that is available to match each range of papers.

 

I find the papers particularly easy to use on boyish layouts and mini albums - Ashville and Metropolis are probably my most favourite ranges at the moment.­

 

 

The new Scenic Route Kraft (double sided cardstock) is something that I usually reach for when scrapbooking. It's great for a layout background or as shown here in my 'come out and play' page, I've hand cut out the circles from a sheet (Ashville Kraft Rings) and used them as an accent to tie in with the photo.

 

 

For this layout (lollies yum) I've mixed up old and new Scenic Route papers for the background, layering them in vertical strips before adding photos and hand stitching.

 

 

I'm also sharing a few of my older favourite Scenic Route projects. The 'All Boy' mini album is a mix of chipboard, patterned papers, alphas and stickers, mainly from the North Shore range.

This Friday our weekend inspiration comes from Scenic Route Paper, in particular their two gorgeous new lines Ashville and Sumner.  Vibrant colours with a line of co-ordinating printed kraft papers, these papers are fun and versatile and could probably adapt to just about any theme.  We love papers that can do that.  The line also carries chipboard themed shapes, stickers, alphas, everything you need really to record some great memories.

Starting this week, we're not just sharing inspiration.  We've decided to have fun with a bit of a giveaway in the form of a sample pack of whatever we're featuring on our weekend inspiration post each week.  Leave a comment on this post and we'll draw a random name to receive a sample pack of these gorgeous Scenic Route Paper patterned papers, embellishments and alphas.  We'll close comments next Wednesday and announce a winner, so make sure you get in before then for your chance to win! 

 

A fun, boyish layout by Mel using the Sumner range of patterned papers from Scenic Route. The leaves have been hand cut from some of the patterned papers in the range and the Journaling Die Cuts are cool and very funky for titles and ofcourse their original purpose - journaling!

 

The new Sumner range by Scenic Route is incredibly fresh with beautiful tones of crisp blue, green, red and cream, just to name a few colours that are included in the range. For this layout Mel has used a sheet of Kraft Willow patterned paper for the background and then drawn attention to the blue water in the photographs by placing some Parker Road patterned paper directly underneath the pictures.

 

And one more layout from Mel using the earlier Metropolis range.  Again lots of fresh orange and blue on a kraft background, these are perfect photos for scrapping those summer photos.

 

Suz scrapped this simple layout of her daughter in motion using the new Scenic Route Ashville range.  The vibrant oranges greens and blues of the patterned papers are just happy and lively which reflect the photo.    

 

We have the lovely Jane Fitchett to thank for this work of art, celebrating her daughter's art.  Jane has used the Kraft Tree paper from the Ashville range to simple but stunning effect to showcase some of the pictures of fruit trees her daughter drew.  We love the whimsical look she ended up with.

 

Anita Letts has captured the sweetness of this photo perfectly in her stunning layout. The black and white pic looks gorgeous with the scattering of Scenic Route papers and the journaling accent helps balance the layout nicely.

 

    

Cathy Bodini has put together this stunning layout using the Sumner range of Scenic Route papers. She has used one of the journaling die cuts (also from the range) to create a large flower on the layout (how cool is that!). Thank you Cathy for sharing your beautiful page with everyone

Weekend Inspiration: Scenic Route Paper

Inspiration for Scenic Route Paper Co. papers and products just goes on and on in this post as we produce some fabulous examples from our own design team as well as sourcing outstanding work from the online scrapping world.

Stars in their Eyes by Caroline McLachlan.  These new papers from the Laurel/Savannah range are perfect to showcase photos from Caz’s recent USA holiday. She organised a tour of Los Angeles and Hollywood in particular so her girls could see the place so often mentioned in American movies and TV shows.

Caz made her own cardstock circle slide frames to highlight the smaller photos on her layout.

Perfection by Nic Howard. Just about everything you see here is made by Scenic Route. From the bright border, to the light papers under the journaling, the bright flower on Kraft cardstock and even the black chipboard letters. Nic has used papers from both Metropolis and Laurel, showing that the different lines of papers are easily mixed and matched. The Berkely letters have quickly become a favourite of Nic's, and she has finished off the detailing in the layout with another current favourite; Queen & Co Beadifuls.

Move the Earth by Susan Doyle.  Suz fell in love with this photo taken by Raylene Wilkinson of Alexander Finlayson.  There was something about his dad's forearm wrapped around him and some quiet confidence in his eyes that draws you in, and an old favourite quote seemed perfect.

Suz has used the new Metropolis papers, die cuts and alpha stickers, as well as some good old Redmond chipboard.

In this layout Mel selected the new range of Scenic Route Laurel papers, scrap strips, arrows and chipboard pieces. By combining products from the same range she has put together a striking page relatively quickly which left time to handstitch the border that she wanted to create around the photo and outside edges.

Growing Beauty by Caro Huot, Quebec, Canada. It was the bright colour and fun texture in this layout that first caught our attention. From the chipboard frame to the Scenic Route chipboard photo corner arrows, to the layered flower, Caro has used the Brighton Range from Scenic Route for the majority of this layout- and it matches her daughter's shirt perfectly!

Silly Boys by Shaunte Wadley of Lehi, UT, USA. We loved this feel-good layout as soon as we saw it. Several papers from the Scenic Route North Shore range, paired with some Pressed Petals Chip Chatter alpha's makes a fun layout -with fun sentiment.

Be by Revlie Schuit of Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. Scenic Route papers are so versatile, this layout showing just how even the bold papers of the CapeTown range can be used in a feminine way. A little Scenic Route chipboard lettering and a quote finish this layout off nicely.

Fast by Revlie Schuit of Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. Revlie's layout is a great example of simple being perfect. Several different papers from the Scenic Route Hampton range cut into similar size rectangles, arranged in the middle of the layout, add a photo and some Heidi Swapp lettering and the story is told.

Observe by Gigi Kennedy.  We were enchanted by the charm and movement of this layout.  Gigi has simply used stars from a few different Scenic Route Paper ranges as her only embellishment on this page, enhanced by some quick outlining doodling - and how cool is her handwriting?!

Baby It’s Cold Outside by Jael Calville. Jael has used layered strips of the Brighton range of Scenic Route papers to create this funky photo mat for her picture. She has inked the edges to give the strips more definition. This technique is a great way to use up scraps of patterned paper.

Inspire by Terri Hayes. Terri demonstrates another great use of strips of paper in her tribute layout to a friend’s family. She has used strips of papers from the Capetown range, and also cut out individual flowers from some of the papers to use as accents. The journaling box is created with a thin circle of paper, circles being all the rage at the moment, and her title using the Redmond Chipboard Stencil letters, wraps around it.
