readers challenge: jillibean soup

This month, in partnership with the fabulous Jillibean Soup brand, we are offering our readers a chance to win a prize pack of papers and products from Jillibean Soup, and an opportunity to showcase your talent on as a Guest Design Team Member on their brilliant blog.  Interested?  Read on!

All you need to do is create a layout using lots of Jillibean Soup patterned papers, alphabeans, bean stalks, bean blossoms, journalling sprouts and/or sugar picks and email it to us by Thursday 3rd November.  We’ll send all your entries over to Jillibean Soup who will choose their favourite to win the prize pack and appear on their blog.  This challenge is open to Australian/NZ residents only.  If you need help finding a local scrapbook store who stocks Jillibean Soup, leave us a comment and we’ll lend a hand finding one near you.

To get you started, here’s some inspiration from our own design team and online.

 

How cool and how fun is this line from Jillibean Soup?!   Leeann just had a blast creating this two-pager using the Sweet and Sour line.

Leeann turned the Bit Size Uncut Cards into totally fun banners which also acted as a photo matt for the silly fun photos of her daughter Holly.   She finished this two-pager off by using the die cut shapes for her embellishments and simply highlighting them with a button to make them pop.

 

Louise created this deceptively simple layout with the Dutch Mustard Soup collection. The co-ordinated cardstock stickers and diecut shapes made it a quick and easy layout to put together, and the Coredinations cardstock base was sanded lightly to enhance the inner core colour and draw the eye slightly towards the centre of the layout.

 

 

Sue has used the Apple Cheddar Soup range from JilliBean Soup to create a layout featuring beautiful autumn tones. Sue really enjoyed using the range, she says, the colours and adorable small prints are fresh and easy to work with. Jillibean produce a die-cut sheet to co-ordinate with their ranges and they are fantastic value, allowing you to add quick and easy embellishments to your page. Sue also added in a little chipboard from MME and a few cute buttons from Crate Paper to completer her page.

 

We just adore this page by Ashley Harris. She has kept the focus on those gorgeous baby feet and scrapped this page perfectly; Ashley has used a mixture from Jillibean’s Homemade line.  Thank you so much for letting us share your adorable page.

 

 

It’s an explosion of colour and such a cool page created by Kim Watson.  We loved the strong vertical lines and whimsical placement of buttons. Kim has used Sweet and Sour by Jillibean. Thank you Kim for letting us share your colourful masterpiece.

 

 

Wendy McKee's 'Love' card using the new Hearty Barley Soup range immediately caught Louise's eye in a gallery. The warm colours and clever use of patterns along with the diecut edges and punches of white, made this a standout.

 

Louise loved Mel Blackburn's gorgeous layout using a Jillibean Soup corrugated background. By cutting circles and rotating the grain, she's added a subtle but interesting details to a very pretty page.

 

This vibrant layout from Becky Williams also uses the lovely Jillibean Soup products to their best. Louise loved the detail of the stripes and photos on the kraft tags and the little cluster with the bakers twine to highlight the journalling. The large corrugated lettering completes the girlie layout with a kid-like twist.

echo park guest designer challenge: readers entries

We had the most enormous response to this call for a Guest Designer for Echo Park Papers, and thank everyone who contributed by sending in their pages. 

We’re thrilled to announce that Echo Park chose the winning entry of Fiona Lally!

Echo Park told us:  There were so many amazing entries. After looking through the projects, we fell in love with Fiona Lally's beautiful style and would love to work with her as a Guest Designer.

Whilst Louise doesn't always incorporate a lot of patterned paper into her scrapbooking she confesses that she is still a patterned paper hoarder and without a doubt this line of Echo Park papers is included in it :).In fact she states that it is one of her new 'faves'! Louise thinks the colour scheme especially is just wonderful, she especially loved the coordinated sticker sheet [LOL we couldn't tell that from these 2 layouts Louise :)].

 

Some paper lines have such a wonderful and unique palette, such as this Ehco Park range and Janine adored creating with it. The pretty delicate colours, mixed with the fun and whimsical prints in the range, make for some really unique combinations of colour and design. Janine loved the little bird images and focused on those, yet they did not detract from the cute picture of her daughter.

 

Larissa Albernaz has an amazing way of mixing layers of patterned paper and embellishments and this is no exception. She has created so much interest with layers of paper and such wonderful colours from the Echo Park "For the Record" range. Thanks for sharing such an inspiring LO with us Larissa.

zva creative: a new competition!

This month we’re teaming up with Zva Creative to give you the opportunity to win a whole bundle of Zva crystal, pearl and flowery goodness, and the chance to appear in their amazing gallery as a guest artist.  We want to give this chance to Aussie entries only, so apologies to internationals.

All you need to do is send us images of your layout or project that makes use of beautiful, current Zva products to [email protected] by Sunday 31st July.  Zva will judge their favourite and we’ll let you know the lucky winner in early August.

Have a look through their gallery for inspiration, and here’s some from our design team to hopefully start you thinking!

 

ZVA have the most beautiful pearl and crystal flourishes Caz has ever seen. On top of this they are also very easy to apply to your page. Caz has had trouble with some swirls losing their shape when removed from the backing paper before but these somehow keep their shape and hold it while you stick them down. The natural colours and leaf shape of this swirl match in with the grasses in the sand dunes where Caz's kids and their friends went camel riding.

 

 

How’s this for a beautiful idea for a special occasion card?!  Inspired by a similar idea on an apparently very expensive card a friend of hers had for a 100’th birthday, Suz whipped up this beautiful concoction for her mother’s 80th birthday celebrations for at least half the cost!  Two shades of the tiny Zva roses covered a chipboard ‘80’ and a matching bling flourish down the side made this card fit for any special birthday. Suz cut the flourish to give her the straight line for the edge of the page, which also gave her extra bits of bling to add to the floral number.

 

Jane Clark create a gorgeous little scene on a card using the lovely Zva pearl trees. She placed them on cream cardstock and then coloured inside them with watercolour pencils – the sticker adhesive forms a perfect barrier.  Jane embellished her scene further with the October Afternoon Fly-a-kite collection stickers, rubons and papers.

 

Every little girl loves sparkle, pink and pretty things! Jane used Zva Creative 12" crystal chain in rose to create a frame around her image. The paper used are from the Little Yellow Bicycle Tiny Princess collection.

 

Caz's new phone cover was just too boring for words so she decided to jazz it up a a bit. ZVA's pearl leafy branches did the trick with a couple of older Heidi Swapp bling flowers to top it off.

We're starting a new series of posts here on the Aussie Scrap Source blog.  Each month we sponsor a special feature in each of the three Australian scrapbooking magazines, where we commission talented artists to use our products in creative and exciting ways.

We're proud to kick off the series with the stunningly talented Maxine Hazebroek and her article which recently appeared in Scrapbook Creations.  Here she takes a load of Aussie Scrap Source products and gives them a 'cracked up' look!

In this layout Maxine covered a Pressed Petals monogram with BasicGrey Blush patterned papers and finished it with a stunning crackle effect.  The monogram is then inked and adhered to her page. 

Although this page appears neither cluttered nor crowded, there's a heap of detail in here, and Maxine makes use of Heidi Swapp French Quarter Rubons, chipboard hearts, cherryArte chipboard alphas, Lil Davis chipboard embellishments, BasicGrey ribbon and more.

Here Maxine applied crackle medium to Heidi Swapp Star Silhouettes, and once dry applied a layer of paint just to the cracks by wiping off most of the paint with a soft cloth.  Again there is much detail here to savour, we love the monochromatic use of papers from different cherryArte ranges, chipboard alphas and numbers, BasicGrey mini mongrams, and Scenic Route Paper alpha rubons applied onto co-ordinating cardstock.   

Look even closer and you'll find that the Heidi Swapp bling, Love You More brads, Sassafrass Lass bracket rubons all contribute to the wonderful whimsical feel of this layout.

In 'Comforts' Maxine applied crackle medium directly to the uncropped paper she printed her photo on, and then applied a watery layer of paint around the photo, overlapping it in some areas over the top of the photo. She then cut a border around the photo and applied stamp pad ink around the edges and into the cracks.

Maxine has used Carolee's Creations patterned papers, Heidi Swapp floral silhouettes and pink chipboard hearts.  She has applied the gorgeous Heidi Swapp French Quarter rubons directly onto Heidi Swapp chipboard - they transfer onto this with wonderful ease - as well as BasicGrey rubons, cherryArte flower rubons and alpha chipboard.  We're beginning to get the idea that Maxine likes rubons!

And how wonderfully atmospheric is this final layout by Maxine.  Here she created the painted/crackled BasicGrey background and flower and added dimension to the crackled flower by bending and scrunching the flower petals. 

Maxine has turned to the Scenic Route rubons on this page along with more fab Lil Davis chipboard words.
